I just got a new Martin Backpacker.It came with a little "care and feeding" insert. There is "Storing Your Backpacker" section. At the end of that, it says;

Hanging an instrument on the wall can gradually affect playability adversely.

How so? I am doing a bit of remodeling and had planned on hanging a couple of my guitars. Now, I question that, but I'd like to know more.

Well it could just be talkin the simple fact of dust? Or maybe it means hangin by the neck? Cause that would stress the guitar id think...it would wanna pull from the body...But i think if you supported it from underneath and dusted often it shouldnt be a problem.

I have a backpacker too and they're pretty cool aren't they? They should be more specific as they are talking about that guitar. Don't hang your backpacker. It doesn't have a truss rod and can be negtively affected by hanging it. Plus, if you do try to hang it, the head is so small it will rest the tuners on the bracket. Not good. Keep in mind too that you can't put anything more than Extra Light guage strings on it or the neck will bend (no truss rod).
Hanging regular guitars is fine. Always keep them strung for proper tensioning. I have an Alembic and I saw the folks at the shop hang their guitars and basses as well. Good for them, okay by me!

Hi to all.

Its to do with the change in temp particularly if its an out side wall. This can damage a guitar the more real wood is used the more humidity and temperature can kill it
Check out the Taylor website for info on caring for your guitar. Most good manufactures provide good info on this
