Anyone have any experience with selling gear to GC? I'm trying to unload my Twin Reverb. Too big, too loud, too heavy, too much money invested.

Why not try and unload it here ? No way GC would give you a fair price anyway.
They would have to give you a price low enough so that they could make money on reselling it.

Post it here and lets see some pics.

It's a stock TRRI. I bought it new from Sam Ash a couple years ago. Looks brand new as well

I have friends who are managers at GC. You will typically get 60% of what they can sell it for. If they list a used TRRI for $750-800, They will offer you between 400-500. Sucks but that is how it works. You might be able to get more if you trade or take store credit but then it just becomes a numbers game.

GC is a business. THEY HAVE to pay less than they can get for anything, that is how their business works. Your best bet is to sell on Ebay or CL, but it looks like right now is a great time to BUY a twin as
the prices seem to be very reasonable these days. A few years ago they were bringing in top dollar.

They are big, heavy, loud, and apparently they made quite a few of them!

Yeah, when I was running the music store I used to deal with this all the time. I tried to be honest with them and tell them what we would sell it for and what we are willing to pay for it. Then encourage them to try to sell it on their own first unless they've reached an emergency point. I don't think the owner appreciated it too much Checking Bluebook prices is always a good idea so you know what you're dealing with, I think they have a web version now too. GC is a big chain and can be a little impersonal but that's a pretty standard policy.

yeah I understand how they need to operate...after all I'm a huge Pawn Stars fan. The guitar center by me is selling them used for like $1,000. I'm at the point of maybe taking in the ballpark of $600. Law school was a bad F#%@ing decision.

Not 100% sure but my guess is that they'd take $800, would offer you 40% of that so be prepared for about $320 as the opening offer.

GC offered me $350 for mine. A TRRI. Not worth it. Put it on craigs list for $500 and it will sell in an hour.

You need to get out of the cash value mindset.
You are now basically looking to make an even trade for an amp that fits your needs.
If you post to your local CL that you are looking to trade a TRRI for a PRRI or DRRI, you'll probably get a bite... of the RI's, the PRRI is the best sounding amp, imho.
The guy who got a PRRI for Christmas will be calling soon. It's not loud enough for him.

I was thinking Princeton Reverb.
iirc, If you already have a Twin, a Pro is pretty much the same thing regarding size, weight, volume. I don't see it as being a better amp if you don't like the Twin.
I haven't crossed paths with a RI Pro Reverb. 'Didn't realize they made one.

I've played DRRIs and they are good. Honestly, in most clubs 22W is plenty.

If you are going to do it I would reccomend trading vs. selling. They often run specials on trade-in like 15% off new purchases

I have done this twice,

1) an old foreign made tele + some cash for a Les Paul (got 20% off the price with any trade in)
2) bunch of old pedals for a new boss me 70 (got 15% off the price with the trade in)
