wow. so i'm bored and reading another website and find this post about Cornell '77 being too hot to actually be a real show. conspiracy states that the tape is actually many shows spliced together and that 5.8.77 never really occured. that made me laugh, but what was even funnier was how many other people bought into it!

Well my buddy was at this show. It was a special show for a number of reasons. However, the bottom line is that we have listened to this show many times over the years from tapes that were acquired in the early eighties, then upgrades of tapes in the late 80s, then discs. Each were from different taper sources. There is no doubt in my mind that the show is as it was that night. Nothing has changed over the years that I can tell. I never heard about this conspiracy before, though.

Anyway, another great late 70's show, IMO.

Let's drop the Cornell show bit! The versions of the story I've heard are downright awful. Microsoft (at the time, two years old) was in on it. And Jerry would never work for the CIA.

I've even seen lists of where the songs "really came from." It'd be interesting to listen to the "original" versions, but an awful waste of time. Anyone tried that?

I don't think anybody truly believes this fairly decent show was a hoax. I theorize the myth got started by someone with a decent sense of humor and was appraently really sick of people droning on and on about the same damn show... but it backfired on him (and the rest of us who are mowhere nearly that impressed with May '77) Can you name one person who actually believes in that?
