Not a huge thing but i found it funny. First verse of Dancin, between 1:30 and 2:00, Bobby makes some funny noises after the some of the lines and you can hear Donna laughing. Then he makes a wolf yell after another line, which is followed by I suspect Jerry (but could be Bobby), saying "Can't you hear me crying" like Smokestack Lightning.

Jerry was playing the right opening chords, but instead of singing "Fare you well, my honey", he starts with "Gonna Leave this....." He tried to "fix" it, but then Bob stepped up and said "No, no, no" and made him start over. Nassau Colisuem, early 80's I think.

I could find out (cause I have the tape/disc) but don't remember the dates at the moment, I believe it was another april fools gig when they all came out playing an instrument other than their ordinary one, pretty horribly funny.

And then at another show bob letting us know that jerry blew an amp by relaying that it had "barked it's little heart out".

The crowd calling for phil to sing and then phil comes to the mike and riffs something like "why not mickey or billy" and jer chimes in and they start going throught the crew, let ramrod sing etc.

I believe it was bob commenting that jer was "hopelessly strung out on the evil weed - tobacco".

I believe that one was sometime in the late 70's. Eerily uncomfortable, thinking about that one now, it is.

I'm also remembering one show where jer said something to the effect of "someone should invent a cigarette that goes out after one puff"

I'm also questioning my recollection of the 'evil weed' quote from the previous post. Maybe it was jer talking about himself?

Sounds like Bob saying "can't you hear me crying"...pretty funny. He sounds a little high or something, or maybe he's just having a really good day!

there is a show from the early days where they are playing, and the power goes out, and jerry is like, "the power went out!" and you can tell they are too high to comprehend whats going on, its funny

2/22/69:

After the first set closer of Death don't, Jerry tells the audience to chill out, hang out 'cos the band was gonna take a break and they'll be back to play more in a bit. What's funny to me is he says something about them going backstage to 'drink a coke'. Everytime I hear it I'm just like yeah right Jer, drink a coke?! Not smoke a joint? I dunno, I guess it's not that funny, but I always chuckle when I hear it.

That reminds me of Whiskey in the Jar from So Many Roads, where they stop right in the middle and I think Phil is like "What is that song?!"

Jerry had obviously been noodling around with that with Grisman, but for some reason didn't seem to want to fess up to that, and says that the song just came to him. Bob, knowing he's full of shit, says something like "words and all, huh", and Jer's like, ".....well"

I went to a show in Des Moines in the mid 70's, guaranteed 5 hour Bill Graham show with the wall of sound. They were having technical difficulties and the weather was wierd going from downright chilly to very hot, and they lost part of the wall. Bob says it will be fixed but it's going to take some time, and some in the band start going (ominously) Ooooh Time, time, and Jerry steps up and says 'Time is a subjective phenomena'.
I told that story for years and recently I discovered nugs.com and that show is on there and sure enough some 30 years later I find that is very close to what happened.
I also saw a KC Uncle John's band where the only lyric Bob and Jerry got right was 'how does this song go' and then looked surprised at one another.

I think it's a pretty popular show, but I'll put it on here anyways. During Truckin' where they say "All her friends can say ain't it a shame."..usually they say "All her friends can say it's a fucking shame." But this night, (and may be some other nights I can't think of right now) weir says "She's off to get a sex change, all her friends can say ain't it a shame."
that's one that tipped me off my stony chair at the time...

One of my favorites was during a Sunshine daydream part of Sugar mag - I think it was at meadowlands sometime in the 80's - I think it's the same show that Steven Stills came out & played love the one you're with.

Anyhow, at the part where they come in with the big - B - sunshine daydream - B - walk you in the tall trees - B -

Bobby starts talking about the australian aborigines. As he's talking the band keeps time nailing the B part on time - bobby starts explaining that the aborigines believe that the dream side of life is the real side and that the waking side is actually the dream side. After a couple of more B parts on the 1 beat - Bobby says "well, what do you think about that?" and then they launch into the rest of sunshine daydream with plenty of bobby's ha's and screaming - classic!
