Hey I wanna hear all the oddities such as jerry screaming lyrics or bobby messin up lyrics. Or when someone messes up and then just busts out laughin in a song. Or some funny banter. Just all the stuff like that. Like in I know you rider when Jerry screams I wish i was a headlight... Or in He's Gone Nothin left to do but SMILE SMILE SMILE. Or like when bobby says Ever since she got a sex change all her friends can say is aint it a shame in Truckin'. I know you guys know plenty of em. Well give em to me please!

I was at a show in 1984 where during the Truckinn', Weir just kept REALLY flubbing the lyrics, until he finally just yelled "FUCK!" full scream.

Another show in Providence in 1986, the band was trying to segue into "Why Don't We Do It In the Road", but for some reason, Weir was stuck on trying to segue into "Gimme Some Lovin'". Phil finally yells " Do It in The Road, Weir!" The next night, before the second set ( it was April Fool's Day ), the crowd is doing the We Want PHIL! chant. Weir, obviously put out, maybe because of the previous night, steps up to the mike and says something along the lines of "Relax, you've got him. And take it from the expert, there's no such thing as an April Fool".

The last show in the summer of '86 before Jerry's coma at RFK Stadium in DC, where Weir introduces the band during the "( I Can't Get No ) Satisfaction encore was bizarre, to say the least. If you can find a good copy of that tape, it's pretty hilarious.

But, my all time fave, and it can only be heard on a good soundboard, was the second night of Merriwether Post in MD in 1985, right before the Stagger Lee. A girl ( that I and all my friends actually knew, although she still denies it ) was down in front yelling "Spit on me-eeee, Bobby! Bobby, I want you to spit on me-eeee!" The reactions of the band can be heard on the board as clear as day and they are funny as hell. Phil is trying to egg him on to do it, while Jerry is just like," That chick is telling you to SPIT on her, Weir".

I forget what show exactly it is but its in 1988

Blackbird > Brokedown Palace was the show closer

they totally screw up Blackbird and the whole band starts busting out laughing its great

I was at the Phil's Earthquake Space show.....that was pretty odd.

There was another show where they encored Brokedown.

Jerry was playing the right opening chords, but instead of singing "Fare you well, my honey", he starts with "Gonna Leave this....." He tried to "fix" it, but then Bob stepped up and said "No, no, no" and made him start over. Nassau Colisuem, early 80's I think.

One more. 3/10/81, MSG. They open with Half-Step->Franklin's->Me & My Uncle. During the first solo of Half Step an amp blew making a horrendous noise. The band just look around at each other, then bring it back together. After Me & My Uncle, Bob says, "That sound you heard during the first song was a mistake, it was art". That was pretty funny.

Ah, too many to name. The few that come to mind (other than aforementioned) include:

Stir it Up in Hampton, where they couldn't pull it off at all

Brokedown encore at Telluride, Jerry is in the wrong key, says something like: "I'm in the wrong key. Sounded pretty good, didn't it?"

Oakland, '87, with Dylan. During a second set Bertha, Jerry screams "Throw me in the jailhouse!" so loud it shook me out of my coma. Check it out on DVD

07.02.88 show has a "we want Phil" chant going on, and Phil tells the crowd to chant for the rest of the band instead of just him...later on in the show though he really pulls out all the stops on Playin' in the Band and does an amzing bass solo

In some other 88 show Bobby fucks up the lyrics on Truckin' and the crowd burst into cheers and laughter.

And you all probably heard the old Bobby's rant 11.10.67 show, he says something like "ride a bus, get a pizza, hoot and jeer at performers, thats always fun. Hoot! Jeer! Hoot Jeer!" At least I think thats Bobby...

That would be from Pittsburgh Civic Arena in Summer of 85 (7/2/85 I believe).

The Oxford Speedway, Maine (7/2/88--first set)banter is definitely my favorite, especially when Jer says...."we want volunteers from the audience"---also some of the hottest shows I've seen barring Fall 89-Spring 90.

check out the Jack Straw from the first set with Phil going BALLISTIC at the end.

Another worth mentioning is some show from out West in I believe Spring 86 with Brent doing some angry-bluesy cover (I think it was Maybe You Know), obviously out of his skull on God only knows what....the band is trying to go into drums but Brent will just not have it and he just goes off on this tangent....I heard he was practically dragged off stage to avoid further embarrassment and so that the Drumz could happen.

Another classic is TOOs from Bryce Jordan Arena at Penn State in Fall of 2000. They did 5 songs and they're playing GDTRFB---everyones taking solos in turn and as Bruce is finishing up his solo, he nods to the drummers to play one through the verse, likely assuming they'll just play one verse....instead, they must take it as "lets go into drumz" proper and start going at it....Weir is visibly disturbed and tries to put an end to the premature Drumz....he signals them to stop but they basiclly ignore/laugh at him and just keep going....then , Bob decides to huddle the band up on the side of the stage, they have a brief discussion and then Bob goes back out front and faces the drummers with his arm up as if he WILL put an end to this....the drummers just play even more intently and Bob finally just throws his arms up in defeat and they all walk off stage. You might not know that from the tape, but it was pretty memorable and hilarious to me. I even saw the setlist after the show that someone scored from a sound man or something and it significantly changed the entire show. It was a weird enough show as is given Hansen sang on Rider....very ill-attended show which I've never heard on tape/disc...

the George Washington's teeth thing mentioned earlier is from 2-11-69....it can be heard at the end of Good Morning Little Schoolgirl. It's definitely one of my favorites.

I was at a RatDog show on 10/24/06 and the second set was about to start when the drummer runs up to tell Bob something. Bob then steps up to the mic and says, "we've got a broken drum...you can't beat that" in his quirky way. It was hilarious at the time.

Pig: "I SAID 'FUCK'!"

end of Doin' That Rag 2/21/69:
Phil: "...that  ra-a-a-a-ggggghhhhHYAR,HYAR, HYAR, MOTHERFUCKER!!"

I've always wondered who that was directed toward!

No one has mentioned The Raven Space? http://www.archive.org/details/gd82-04- ... sbeok.shnf

At the RatDog show from 2006-11-18, the drummer goes on a long thing about "at the end of every tour, someone has to go to Rehab Island." But he wasn't talking about drug rehab... more a break from touring. "You can even smoke weed on rehab island!" (to countless cheers)

Somewhere in the 1967-05-05 show, the band try to get the crowd to yell various things. At first, the crowd is excited, but the things become so lame and the scene ends with a "forget it." (Check it out. I don't do the story justice.) http://www.archive.org/details/gd67-05- ... sbeok.shnf

Phil calls someone "you motherfucker" at the end of Doin That Rag and continues yelling at him into Dark Star in the 1969-02-21 show http://www.archive.org/details/gd69-02- ... sbeok.shnf

Sounds like someone told a joke far too many times. Guilty. Sounds like a joke I could do over and over if Bob liked it.
