hey deadheads, my b-day is coming up in a couple weeks, and this past thanksgiving break my rents were asking is there anything in particular that i'd like. well a few months ago, i spent a little bit of time looking around dead.net at all the dicks picks, and i made a list that i always keep in my wallet of Dicks Picks that i'd like to have in my lifetime, and each time i get one, i cross it off the list. well being a college student with little funds, i've only crossed off one so far (DP's 18, awesome stuff). this birthday is a good time to get a couple more crossed off. the DP's on the list now are Dicks Picks 4,8,10,12,14,16,17,20,26,31,and 36. now on the list i have DP 12 starred, as well as 10 and 20 because i've heard a lot of great things about these ones. any advice on shows from this list, personal favorites, you know, all the things Heads enjoy discussing. thanks for any input, later.

DP 8 is my fav of the DP series. 5-2-70 was an awesome show.

The Pick that is the 8/4,5,6/74 is really great one. Awesome Eyes from 8/6/74- one of the best, even out of all the fine examples of that year. Also the Playin'>Scarlet>Playin' from the same show is not to be missed.

Not sure which # it is, but the show from Raceway Park in Englishtown, NJ on 9/3/77 is smokin'. A great Eyes, all cracked out and what not.

Don't get the wrong idea about my following post - I love the gd as much as the next person here - but a body does get tired of the gd at times. Remember Phil's quote that he sometimes get tired of the grateful dead, but he never gets tired of being in the grateful dead - what does this have to do with the post about requested dp's? If you are in the mode for receiving cd's, I would suggest the Coltrane Quartet Box Set, or the Sonny Rollins box set, or Leo Kottke (but only pre-Mike Gordon Kottke), Wes Montgomery and Barney Kessel or Joe Pass, too.

I know you were asking about dp's but I couldn't help myself - I'll shut up now.

You should not pass up #2, I dare say the best single disc in the whole series. Some really amazing jams in there. One sweet tripy musical collage. A must in my book.
