... is currently known as Hyde Street Studios!
A few years ago, I drove up to Brisbane, CA with two of my good friends to record a song at Catapult studios. We entered the room and set up in a circle and recorded the song that would launch (pun intended) us into the current state of affairs that is the ever evolving journey of my band, Uncommon Sense.
We originally thought of naming our little project Studio C (after Catapult) before later settling on our current name. But Studio C brings to mind a few other important things to those of us in the San Francisco recording scene.
In the late 1960s, Wally Heider's recording studio was constructed on Hyde Street in San Francisco to cater to the budding music scene in the City. The first studio completed was upstairs which was given the designation of Studio C. Within its first 3 years of operation, Crosby Stills and Nash recorded their first two albums, CCR recorded "Green River," bands like the Jefferson Airplane and Quicksilver Messenger Service came through, and the Grateful Dead recorded American Beauty. The list goes on.
Today, August 8th, I will be joining my friends in Studio C in what is now Hyde Street Studios. August 9th marks the 16th anniversary of Jerry Garcia's passing. I find it fitting I would be in Studio C making music.
I believe in the metaphysical effects of music. This studio has a sacred musical vibe. Wish me luck, friends!
Peace,
Jommy
