I met Bob back in 2000, I think it was. I was bringing my sister to her first Ratdog show (or any jam band for that matter). We were walking up Congress St. in Portland (Maine) and there were a few heads hanging out on the street, about 100 yards from the venue, and one of them said "Hey, you wanna see Bobby?" and I told him we were going to the show, already had tickets, and he said "no, I mean do you wanna
see Bobby?" and pointed me to the restaurant we were standing in front of. Well, the windows were all covered in newspaper, but there was one little spot where they missed, and as I peered inside, sure enough, there's Bobby eating dinner with a cute blonde girl, probably late 30's to mid-40's (or at least that's how old she looked). There was only 4 or 5 other people in the place, all of whom were accompanying him, and none of which were in the band, from what I remember.
We stuck around for a few minutes, and as he walked out, I just stood there looking at him, kind of struck, I guess, as the other 5 or 6 kids all said "Hi" and "Hey Bob, can you play such and such?". As he walked up toward the venue, I realized I was standing right in his path, so as he approached, I snapped out of it, said "Thanks for everything Bob" and gave him a hug. That was it. My sister also gave him a hug, but she was speechless the whole time. Being up here in Maine, you don't get to see to many "famous" people all that often.
But anyways, it was a cool experience nonetheless, and one I'm glad I had. I really wish I had more time than I did, like Crazy 9.5 Fingers had mentioned in his post. I think it's really cool you asked him about lessons, because had he not been obvious in his manor about getting off the main street and to the bus, I would've liked to have asked the same exact question, just to see if he'd say exactly what you said "sure, hop on the bus, let's jam for an hour!"
THAT would be something....really would be something....
