Roland announced the GR-55 at NAMM. The Vguitar forums has some good information on it if you are interested (i.e. if you are interested in buying one soon I suggest you go check it out asap)

Anyway - I love me some midi so I sold my GR-20 and pre-ordered one of these

Wow! This looks pretty cool, I've got a GR-20 and a GR-33 - this looks like they done some significant new stuff to it.

Sweet, I can see why Jerry liked the midi, it is the ultimate modeler, and so much more can be developed in the future, even from here. This actually has me interested in it...

Jonny - I don't really use Jerry sounds with mine but since we don't have a regular keyboard player I'll fill in some B3ish stuff. For solo sounds I use the trumpets and the sitar more than anything else also some old school synth lead sound mostly combined with guitar sound. This new one looks like it tracks even better than the older models. It's a lot of fun.

I would assume to use it to get a modeled guitar tone would be a waste, unless it was flawless, but as you say the awesome synth sounds from organs to bassoons are the ticket. My Pog II does an awesome B3 too. I can store up to 6 different sounds on it so it is not confusing to use live. I have a few versions, but with Born to be wild and Road house blues it really works well with 3/4 guitar and 1/4 B3 organ, as if it is in the background... The pog tracks really well too.


I can't help but thinking a good tone and DI to the board would be possible with MIDI.

I finally got a video up using the GR-55. Just a plain steel six string acoustic patch - I think it sounds pretty good for what it is. Gonna work on some backup strings for a rendition of Gomorrah next

Actually, John K was talking about the GR-55 being a bit of a revelation at NAMM. Hmmm.... more goodies or food for the children.... these are the GAS-inspired questions we all must face...

John k has one that he's been playing with. He was saying that - just as an example - you could assign a different type of distortion to each string and get a layered distortion sound. I'd love to play with one of these!

It is a really fun piece of gear that's for sure. Some of the things you can do with it are pretty incredible. Not stellar tone but more than acceptable for my purposes/skill level. Particularly for the one man + looper setup I run it fills things out really nicely. Now I have to gain the courage to try and re-wire my graphtech ghost system - the guy who did my guitar didn't include the mag output in the ghost wiring scheme (as I asked ) so no magnetic signal via the 13pin out.
