The Bobby trill on early intros?!

On the 3rd beat Bobby does some weird trill that I cannot figure out. (BTW, for this song I count 8 for each line, less the skipped beat in the refined version)
I know in later versions he bops between an E to an E7 and it's in place of that E7. In some of them he and Phil lock in for something there too!
