Red Rocks 1985- Brokedown Brokedown

I did a search on the board and didn't see this anywhere - I used to have this on cassette, and just recently came across the video. It's fun to watch because Bobby knows this is off from the get go- and Jer just keep plugging along!

BTW- I used to have a 87-88(?) tape where they open second set and rip into "Hell in a Bucket" - but it's totally whacked and the bring it to a halt and start over. Anyone know which show that was?

lol- I was at that show. What was even funnier than Bob's reaction was Brent who is out of the video frame just looking at Jerry shrugging his shoulders. I think Jerry did the same thing to Brokedown in Pittsburgh I think. Classic.

mijknahs - I see you posted this video on YouTube - got any more from these shows?

Bob: let's start it over
Jerry: want to?

funny. I like how Garcia is going along and starts slowly realizing he's headed for whitewater as the tune moves farther and farther away from familiar.

He does another false start on the same tune, in the same state 2 years later @ Telluride. Blaming it on the altitude. "what a minute, this is all fucked up..."

I was at this show too and loved it. My first show out west. This was the Thursday of a stellar Thurs, Fri, Sat. run at the rocks. I had never seen the band stop or interact with the crowd as much as they did in this run. Jer just seems so out of it as he's playing on and then when Bob calls to stop, its like he wakes up. "Wha, start again? - okay." By Sat. Jer broke a string or something and they were delayed coming out, so All the guys play a Star-Spangled Banner on kazo. It was a sunny Saturday in Colorado at 2pm. It was like a football game of the trippiest team you ever saw! Then they all clear out and Bob comes back to "regale you with a song that I may not remember" and proceeds to hack through "The Logger Song". Oh the place was hoppin' Then Parish has Jer ready to go and he comes stumbling out in red and kicks off Miss Half Step and the next 5 or 6 hours were just absolutely awesome. The best concert I ever saw!

That was my first trip out west to see the Dead too. 4 people in a Dodge Omni trekking across the country. One thing I remember was Jerry forgetting the 2nd verse to Fire on the Mountain and the first few rows yelling "Almost ablaze!" over and over again till he heard them. He smiled and walked up to the mic and sang the verse. Great times!

I think I have some more from that show. I'll try to post some more this weekend maybe...

I want to see more from that Manor Downs '83 show (Brokedown Palace is on YouTube)!

Yup. 7-2-85 After realizing his screw up, Jerry says "sounded pretty good didn't it?"

Why did Bobby stop it? Just because it was too fast?

Was wondering as well. There are a few intros maybe he wanted something different?!

For the Hell in a Bucket, I used to think that Jerry started off in the wrong part of the song. But watching and listening, I'm not so sure now.

Bobby is gesturing all over the place - but I can't figure what he's trying to indicate-

looked and sounded like a tempo problem - it was pretty peppy

the restart was a lot slower - maybe too slow :D
