Bravo, Brad and your SMS preamp!

Heard it last night live for the first time as I caught DSO in Dekalb, IL!
I believe Jeff had this old poweramp (4Buster?) and a pair of JBLs on top.
What makes this rig even cooler to hear the SMS is that it was an early 70s show and he had on the floor: tuner, wah, green box.
Basically, all you heard all night long was him directly into the SMS sans effects and holy good God was it an awesome tone!

Sweet.
Thanks so much for the kind posting. That's pretty cool to hear the minimal rig like that. Jeff is using a Bryston 4B power amp. That's a wonderful, very high end studio power amp and with gobs of power. We'll get him a Mac one of these days, but that 4B seems to be delivering the goods for him. I wish I could have been there. Jeff rocks.

You are welcome & thanks for the poweramp scoop.
Ya know, I knew your preamp would do well but needed to hear it for myself to be blown away like I was.
I've got to say that the SMS sounded like the sweetest Twin you could think of but better. Similar to Fargens approach to my ears:
Lows: perfectly present, but not dominant
Low-Mids: powerful
Mids: sweetly strong!
Presence: perfectly transitions between the upper mids and treble
Treble: TASTY! But not sharp! Awesome
Air: none, which is perfect!
I'm changing up some things on my rigs so get ready to build me one next year! It'll be my birthday present to myself!

I was under the impression that he already had an MC2300. Is that not right?

Indeed. Good times! 4/11/72 I do believe with a 19 song first set. We were spent after that and took off plus work the next day.

Not sure what you saw. Dino just confirmed that he IS still using that Bryston 4B, just the left channel only. The graphic on front of theirs is a bit different from this photo however. I think it belongs to their monitor guy.

Brad, I'm positive that it was very similar to the one posted. Isn't that a Byrston 4B???
Maybe not exact but very similar! The thing was huge maybe 3 or 4 U?!
It was in a rack with just your SMS and the rack case had JK3 on the bottom.

Oh yeah,
it is the same. Doh!
Dino said that's the only power amp Mattson has used in these past two tours. Maybe I'm confused. I thought you said he wasn't using it in DeKalb, IL the other night.

At Otto's he was:
Guitar > OBEL Green Box > Tuner > Wah > SMS > 4B > 2x12 HT with JBLs
And the tone was OUTSTANDING!!!!
