I just got a 72 fender bandmaster Reverb head for real cheap. I'm just wondering what speakers to set them up with. I'd like some clean headroom which is a lot to ask for on a 45 watt amp. I got it because I have heard Kimock played at one time a fender bandmaster. Does anyone know about this? What kind of speakers he uses and that sort of thing?
The Bandmaster is a killer amp. I think you will find it adequate for jamming with others and practicing. I see in his videos(Steve's) on his web site he has a vintage Vox amp and Cab probably with the Celestine Blues in it, and a fender twin probably vintage as well, I would assume JBL's. That's at least what you can see in his video's(except for the actual speakers) at Kimock's corner of himself in his personal studio/jam space. I see you an email him there, you may want to try that.
So many speakers these days to tell anyone what is the best to use. I would love to try the tone tubby hemp alnico's, people seem to swear by them. You can't go wrong with Jbl's either (D120,K120,E120). If you are into buying brand new speakers, Eminence Commonwealths are a good speaker, that is what I use lately in my 2x12 and haven't switched for a while now. I would also like to check out the Weber neomags, I am sure they are a fine sounding speaker and light too. I would love to actually make a 2x10 with JBL K-110's for my next project. Good Luck, JB
