Below is a clip from Franklin's Tower from the Knick shows in June of 1995 there appears to be speakers on stage/monitors, why would you want sound proof monitors and floor monitors too? Maybe that's not what those are.... but everyone has one.<object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/MVzIXEtG8Wk&hl ... ram><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/MVzIXEtG8Wk&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>[/youtube]

By then Jerry wanted to retire but couldn't because of all the obligations to the Grateful Dead corporate combine.

Teleprompters? seriously? I was front row one show in 1994 Atlanta, Omni and I don't remember the stage being littered with 4 or 5 televisions. Maybe that was something they did that year. But, I wasn't the gear head then that I am now either, so I wasn't paying any real attention to speakers, monitors, teleprompters and such. Maybe it shouts, "Wake THE FK UP JERRY! "

Teleprompters first appeared in about 1993 according to Scrib's book. Seems very likely to be the case.

Jerry wasn't really with us that tour. That thing up there we called Jerry was more of an empty shell at that point. I didn't see a whole lotta Jerry showing up to gigs after '93. There were some nice moments in '94 here and there, but by '95 he had already checked out for the most part.

I bailed out after some pretty sad shows in '93 - his heart just wasn't in it anymore. It was a downhill slide after Brent's death. It's a tough place to be both as the performer and an audience member watching it. Thankfully I had 10 good years and a couple hundred shows before it started going south.

Maybe those weren't teleprompters and they were all watching Giants baseball games  at the Port O'Call in the OBX they have TVs where I can see them and the Orioles are usually playing as the gig starts - I admit to getting distracted on occasion - this year it'll be the World Cup . . .
