Mid gig brawl (Blazing saddles style)

So my band played a gig last night. First set was good second set was going much better. There were a couple real WOW moments there... Halfway through After Midnight I noticed a brawl had started (yes, an actual brawl with people getting tossed all over the place). This took
place on the other end of the bar about 100 feet from the band. We kind of stopped playing (not that I wanted to but the bar manager was giving me the cut throat sign). When everything was cooling down we started messing around playing the eleven... Once that got going another mini scuffle broke out (this is the last time I will ever play there). However, this time about 6 cops rolled into the joint and started taking punks out left and right. I saw 3 scumbags face down essentially hog tied face down. unfortunatly, we had to end the show about 6 tunes short.

Anyone else out there ever deal with this durring a gig? On top of everything the H2 didn't record... Booooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

Sorry Keir, I have played some crazy late night shows, some after warehouse "test" parties and there is nothing worse than some crazies messin with the vibe! I can remember a show a real long time ago, my friend was playing ripple acoustic solo, this big asshole drunk dude walked up on stage grabbed his guitar and smashed it on stage, yelling how the Dead sucked! Needless to say this was the last tune of the night! Stuff can happen anytime at anyshow. :?

I have seen some crazies, fights and beer spillage and stuff, but that story is so sad. Wow, makes ya wanna cry.

What really sucks is wasting the amount of time and effort that goes into playing a gig only to have the best part cut off due to a couple drunk people that were to immature to handle themselves. I found out it was 4 scumbags...2 on 2. If anyone ever approached me and my gear I would lower myself to their level in a flash completely roll them. Like that famous line in Men At Work... " never touch another mans fries" Never touch another gear-tone freaks gear.

Sorry, dude, that sucks.

It's funny, many years back I new a guy (hard rock) who'd play at a local bar every so often and I noticed he never had a case for a piece of shit guitar. And upon further inspection it was missing string?! Finally, I asked him what was up with it thinking sentimental, etc, and said, protection. Guess that guitar was used to save him from a drunken fight and getting some of his gear stolen amidst of the chaos.... Kinda funny what sparks back memories...

So, does this mean your amp is finally fixed? How do the K-120s compare with the Es or the Beymas?

That's nuts!

I have seen some shit go down at gigs over the years though - even some really bad shit, 2 stabbings (different occasions), somebody hit by a car, a few brawls... and on and on...

Once even a fire was accidentally started by the drummer & the whole wall next to the stage completely went up in flames. We managed to grab gear quick enough and everybody got out in plenty of time. But - it was our first time playing at this place (Central Park Grill in Buffalo) and we were sure that we'd never be back. But 16 years later and that band is still playing there regularly!

Especially starting out, you tend to play some sleazy places and eventually the law of averages says that sooner or later...

This place was a shithole... Although I did have backdoor exit for certain activities. Ironically enough the best tune we played was a Pink Floyd tune called Green is the Colour. Kind of has a Positively 4th street feel to it.

Jim,

I got the amp 2 hours prior to soundcheck so the K's have not been installed yet. Once I put the K's in I will let you know. I am holding all judgement until I play my Resurrection through them.

That would be criminal behavior. I hope that man was prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

Gotta love dealing with bar drunks. I've seen some crazy shit go down at gigs, punches, wrestling, etc. (sometimes it involved one of my band members) - the all time best/worst was at a gig in the Outer Banks (there's something about a beach that pretty much cuts most people's IQs in half) a dude pisses in a stage monitor, while we were playing - thankfully it was the club's PA. The dude was promptly escorted out "accidentally" getting bumped into several walls/doors as he exited.

I had a friend who did guitar repairs (in wild-wonderful West Virginia) and someone had brought in a Martin D-28 that needed repair. Apparently in a bar brawl someone pulled out a gun and fired it blindly into the bar and a bullet went through the top and back of this guy's guitar and somehow missed the guy playing the guitar.

I love the "Eye of the Tiger" response - quick thinking there dleonard
