To those who have or have played a late 70's Ibanez musician

I am looking at several on Ebay but I ahve never played one. What type of tone does it have? Will it give me a descent Jerry tone with a few mods?

I've picked up 2 MC-300's in the last 6 weeks
I think I get a decent Jerry tone and I have done no mods.

At a minimum, you need an MC300. It comes with (2) trisound switches. The ultimate MC's are the MC400, 500 & 550 with built-in EQ/Pre-amp. Some have a master tone control & some don't. I prefer those with the master tone control.
These are great guitars.

Thanks man,
I am pretty reluctant to put anything electric on youtube - I have no issues with my parking lot style covers
But my move to electric is accompanied by a real desire to get better as a player...and I am embarrassed to say....I ain't close yet
All I do with my electric playing is try and dial in the best tone my weak fingers can muster and lay down rhythm tracks on a looper and then go through and jam using different scales, modes, etc. to try and bring all the theory in to practice.
If you're interested I can try and record a bit and send you a mp3 - but again it would sound a lot better in someone elses hands (don't want to turn you off these awesome guitars!)

Great thoughts on these guitars! I have noticed that the 200's don't have much in the form of switches. Can the 300's and up go to a single coil with humbuckers?
I am eyeballing a few on ebay right and have to admit they are very pleasing to my eye! As much as I know the strat can be modified, I just have never really liked the look of it......I guess my eyes are used to Tiger and Rosy!
Jack, you are a humble guy! I am sure you play the electric great! So you think the MC is the way to go huh? If that is the case I am going to start biding

Hey man,
1. Ya the MC300 and up have "Tri-Sound" which is humbucker, single coil or reverse phase.
2. Well a custom Tiger is the way to go
but these musicians sure do make the wait enjoyable!

As for a Jerry Guitar, those are real nice guitars and you can nail a Jerry tone on any guitar, but some a "LITTLE" easier than others. If you are in the beginner or the first stages of intermediate, I would look into the Made in Mexico Strat's or a guitar around $500 and get some other tools, like good pickups,pedals, or an amp to get you the closest. Jerry can be done with any guitar (Technique is 98% of it), but strat's are easy to modify pickups, put humbuckers, or a mixture of singles and HBKRS. If you like the musician, go for it, maybe go to the music store around town to see if you like the feel of the guitar. I wish I had 1k right now to get a guitar, I would get a good strat mexican or american and modify it with 3 humbuckers. I saw an SG on Ebay with 3 humbuckers for around $300( epiphone). Thats what Stu from JGB plays, well his is a gibson.
