A friend bought one of these and brought it over. WOW was it nice! Beautiful fit and finish, and it sounded great and was super easy to play. An amazing value at $400. I was shocked at how nice it was. He was really getting some of the Bobby stuff with it...

Sounds cool! I think the 335 is the one that Dan S has been wanting... was it an Epiphone brand or some other?

Oh, now I see how my language was unclear. Yes, it was an Epiphone. I don't know the model name, but it looked like what Bobby played back in the day.

Looks like a Sheraton or a "Dot" those are real good values.

I've been happy with mine. However, I have this hang-up with rosewood fingerboards

Hey Guys, I am very curious about the Epiphone 335s. I really want a Gibson 335 but just cannot justify $2200 for a Gibson right now, but could spend $400-600 for an Epiphone.

1) How is the construction? I assume the Epis are machine made somewhere in the far east.
2) How are the pickups? The Gibsons have 57 Classics (PAFs). If this is a weak point, I could replace the Epi pickups with Gibsons.
3) Are there any other weak points such as the tuners or the neck or anything?

I've owned an Epiphone Sheraton II (tobacco burst) since 1994. It is made in Korea and is a very well built guitar. The biggest improvement is to replace the pickups with what ever you prefer. Just grab the wires through the f-hole and splice the new pickups onto the old wires (too hard to solder them directly to the pots).

I love the way it plays. The "feel" is great. Sounds good unamplified.

I just don't like the feel of a rosewood fingerboard after a few hours of playing and sweaty hands.

To me it feels like like I fight the fingerboard a bit. A guitar tech told me I just sweat to much and combine that with lower end rosewood and voila, disliking.

Like I said, it's my issue.

I see.... Well, we can solve that problem for you quickly and cheaply.

I know there is a way to basically gloss up a rosewood fingerboard. Gonna try that one day.

Does rosewood ever look black? The fretboard on my buddy's axe was black like ebony...
