If you have a copy of Live Dead, is it worth shelling out for Live at the Filmore East 2-11-69 and if so why?

Yes, because more music is better.

Great difference, as the Fillmore album had the band on a short time schedule, so the show isn't as open-ended, maybe more purposeful. Terrible "Hey Jude", but good shows (early and late). If II remember correctly, they were the opening band for Janis Joplin and the Full Tilt Boogie Band.

Because 2/27/69(Live Dead, mostly)is one amazing performance, and 2/11/69 is another great performance, and pretty much ALL of February '69 is worth having. Far more so even than May '77 in my book(ymmv).

I would recommend trying to get this if you can....

Am I doing something wrong, here? I am not profiting, or even asking for B&P, just offering to make available to the public (actually the interested parties on rukind) music that the Grateful Dead have already gotten their money for. This was a run of 10,000 that they charged 89.00 for, if I remember correctly. If ASmazon wants to charge $2500 for the same thing, i.e., they bought up copies to resell, then I am sure they are way more in violation of the Dead's policy against profiting from their music than I am, who just offered to make it available to people who love the music. I am a long time deadhead, am well aware of their music trading policies, would never violate them, and don't feel that this is a violation. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Then why can Amazon buy up copies and resell them for $2500 unopened, $1500 used? I'm sure the Grateful Dead recieve none of that huge profit. Would I be in violation if I made a huge profit on my copy of this item, should I decide to sell it? Since the Grateful Dead only made a run of 10,000 copies, all of which sold, so all of which were paid for at their price (@ $90), then haven't they gotten their money, and shouldn't I be free to enjoy mine as I please? I can see if there was an ongoing profit to the Grateful Dead that I could conceivably be interfering with their rights, but in this instance, I do not see where I am affecting them at all. I actually have already copied them, and listen to the copies, not the originals. That is to preserve the collector value. And if you want a copy, it would be of the copy. Again, not trying to be difficult, just trying to understand. Also, could you tell me your experience with copyright law? Thanks!

Thanks to all for the information. I bought the CD yesterday and mostly like it a lot. The jams are great, Mountains of the Moon is beautiful, Pigpen is in good form and the best Eleven I've heard so far. Sound quality is pretty ordinary though, basically a hotted up desk tape.

I think I'll pass on the $2,500 ten album set though. That's a bit over the top even for an an obsessive like myself. The best response to Amazon's pricing would be for Rhino to do another print run. The demand is obviously there. Having heard this one I'd think seriously at $90.

FWIW, it was a week after Phil's 50th BDay show at Copps Colisseum in Hamilton Ont....and, Brent absolutely clammed the living shit out of it....I still loved it though!
