My all time favorite Dead tune, first one I tried to learn on the guitar.

Well, all that time learning it has finally paid off!

One of my top 5 also. YOU KILLED IT! That second solo cooked! If I lived in Boston you would get so sick of seeing me dance around in front of you.

It is really interesting to search for Jack Straw on youtube, because just about every Dead cover band in the world does it. There are versions that range from just plain awful to amazing. Lots of bands play it really well. (The Tricksters kill it -- they kill everything. DSO, too.) I watched some bands I'd never heard of play it. It's a good measure of a Dead band ... do they do the little half-bar intro or does the lead player just cop the Europe 72 line? How are the harmony vocals? Does the jam build and release? It's a pretty good bet that if a band can play a great Jack Straw, they can handle the rest of the Dead's catalog well.

We need to work on the intro

I liked it. Jimbos tone is not that great. His playing is just fine and his singing is getting better all the time. I always struggle with the second part of the intro, we can share, sun so hot. I played the bob part for along time and now Im moving back into more of a jerry role. You guys are really playing great as a band. The bass is mixed really well on this. Overall it is a great version of Straw. I can honestly say in all the years I have been doing this I dont have a single recording that sounds as good as this. Keep on truckin.

Wow! I really just can't believe how good you guys are. I listen to you and at times feel I should just throw all my equipment away. The mix is wonderful and your playing looks so completely effortless. It's a real treat to be able to watch and listen. Thanks again.

I love this tune. The lyrics, like "Pancho and Lefty" really draw the picture of outlaw bonding and eventual betrayal.

Nice job guys, the music is top shelf. The vocals are good, too...seems you're halfway between singing it as yourselves and trying for the tribute sound. I would go for the "dead music, our vocals" model. It will serve you better down the road.

Of course, I could be full of shit.

Jack straw is also my favorit tune. Its my favorit tune to play as well. Nothing like ripping that solo.

It is certainly an old standby that can pickup an otherwise lackluster gig. I love all the different parts in the tune. Very fun to play.

Just had a listen. The mix was a little rough at the beginning but it seemed to smooth out. Once again...Wow!. You guys sound very good. It's an "Equipment Forum" so I expect to be impressed by the knowledge of equipment...but the level of musicianship of those on this board is really phenomenal. Thanks for sharing.
