I have noticed a tendancy within certain types of musicians. I believe the main instument a muscian plays directly relates to their personality type. (mind you this is all highly presumtious and should be taken with a gain of salt or with no degree of serious thought at all)now that I've covered my ass we can proceed.
Guitar players are eccentric
Drummers are obsessive compulsive
I can only really get into detail on guitar players because thats what I know best.
the guitar itself is eccentric in nature. similare notes streched over six string in completly different locations on a fret board. Adding to this is the fact that you can change the locations of your notes at any time you like using various tunnings. This means that you can play the same thing in infanatly different ways in almost random places on the board.
for the constantly changing mind, this is a perfect instrument, it allows you to wander off into new areas without leaving the designated progression, meaning, you never have to play the same thing twice.
I also believe that it is the guitar players eccentricities that drive Him/her tword the instrument.
eccentricities can cuase sutle effects on a persons social life that niether the subject at hand, or the people around them, can sense on a conscience level.
most people live their lives around a designated routine which they are not fully aware of. Your basic mildly eccentric person spends his day mindlessly trying to avoid these types of routines. People often have difficulties with people they don't understand. A routine person will subconsciously dislike anybody with a chaotic lifestyle. meanwhile, those living semi-choatically
with feel an isolation from the rest of society. Driving them to learn and creat within their own subconscious environment. i.e. sitting in their basement with a guitar in there hands as oppossed to going out and dealing with the stupid drama and bullshit that makes up everyday life.
Drummers are obsessive compulsive. They are obsessed with beat in an unnatural fashon. It must be perfect, it must be pristean, it must be precise
Drummers don't take change well unless they are controling the change. You'll find that most drummers have a certain way of doing things, anyone who does it differently is wrong. This is what makes drummers a pain in the ass. They are usually thick headed and unopen to others opinions. This persute of their own personel perfection is what drives them to insanity. They therefore find themeselves sitting in a basement playing the same beat over and over again insisting that their left hand is slow, when we all know it sounds fine. The irritation involved in this propells said percussionist to want to hit things, so it's all very convinient when he finds himself sitting behind and kit which was designed to be banded on.
It's nice how circular theis things become
so that's my irrational thinking for the day, feel free to elaborate or tell me I'm full of shit. I won't be offened(one rarley can be when he's talking out his ass)
