hey you guys, i wanna acquire some sort of a pedal that will emulate the mutron jerry used. will a Boss Auto wah do the trick? they have them for $109 at GC, but about $50 online. i refuse to go to GC -even to try it out, had lots of problems with them over the years - i dont want to get into that. if not the boss then what can i use to emulate that mutron? im not spending over $100 for an effect -thats just downrigth ridiculous. any suggestions?

And this one sucks:
If you want to spend only $50 for a pedal, you're gonna get $50 worth of pedal.
Get the Emma!

Agreed, had the AW for three days, and returned it!

I have to agree to. I've tried the Boss auto-wahs at Guitar Center and the QTRon really blows it away

Envelope filters drive me crazy (just looking for that 'right' one) - I'm using the Emma now and it's good but expensive. I also liked the old MXR envelope and you might can find one in your price range. The Q-Trons are nice and cheap but the volume boost is a deal breaker for me. Good luck.

I hear ya on that .... I was just thinking it was because I have a Pearly Gates in the bridge position ...
There are times when the thing is out of control .... its a fine line .... these EF's ....

Seriously HUGE +1 on this.
Everyone I know finds good + usable + tasty tone on an Emma.
Now you may find something that better suits your needs however this won't be a waste of your time.

a-ha , thanks you guys. i was so close to buying that boss for $50, i wont do it now. I bought a delay for $50 and was extremely disappointing, though i still use it as the audience cant tell or doesn't really care.
I understand that ya get what ya pay for but a %100 mark up at GC is ridiculous. as for spending an amount larger than $100 for a single effect......i think ill just stick to the tunes that dont need it lol.

They dont have a 100% mark up. Generally they get items for 50% off of retail. And then maybe (depending on the manufacturers) another 10% on top of that and if they pay early another 5%. That equates to paying about 42.5% of retail at best. Then there is MAP which is generally 25% less then retail.
So product that retails for $100 may cost them $42.5 and they list it for sale at $75. I dont think that is a ridiculous mark up. They have huge over head and have to compete with everyone and honor the lowest price from others as well.
Although I just stood up for them, I am not a big fan of GC.
BACK ON TOPIC....
I have an old MXR Envelope filter. I go through phases of liking it or not. RIght now I am in my NOT liking it phase. Eventually I will get an Emma.

well i saw a brand new boss wah for $50 online and then at GC they had the same one for $109.
Ive had big problems with the GC out here. ive had to demand to speak to managers several times - long story.
though i did get my hot rod deville for $500 out the door, floor model , but i preferred it so.
With all the modern technology these days - considering all the applications my cellphone can perform you'd think the prices for effects would be tumbling. i think theyve got everyones balls in a vice and theyre just squeezing out every penny they can get. seriously $109 for a pedal thats getting crappy reviews? they know that most of the folks coming through the door have no idea how much any of these products are actually worth.
capitalism

I am going to disagree with the majority.
The Boss FT-2 is a pretty good pedal. Takes some adjusting, but it can be made to very faithfully emulate the Jerry/Mutron sound. People have come up to me after a Shakedown and told me that I nailed the Jerry tone with the FT-2
Not to be confused with the AW-2 (auto wah).
The FT-2 is worth a try. They are not that common, as they are older now and no longer made.

My BOSS twah-1 purchased in the 80's has been my rock.
It's got the toggle switch for the reverse wah sound a la "Dancing in the Streets" 1977 tour.
Simple and effective. No expensive bells and whistles to cheapen the sound.
BOSS should re-issue this pedal!
