Anyone see a cool NYE show this year? Looks like the Further show was cool.

My last Dead NYE show was Phil & Friends at SF Civic/Warfield/Filmore in 2006 (before my daughter was born). Only went to one GD NYE show in 1986-7 at the Kaiser.

I went gypsy punk this year and saw Gogol Bordello in Charlottesville, VA - these guys are really cool and worth checking out for those that haven't heard of them. cool instrumentation - accordion, violin, etc.

Before Furthur last week, the last NYE show I had seen was Grateful Dead 1990, and 1989 before that...

The Furthur show was fantastic. John is amazing. If Bob would stop switching guitars every other song, and fucking with his amp during songs, Phil would stop singing songs he didn't write, and both of em would allow John to play unleashed, they would be going much Furthur!

Seriously though, these guys are on top of their game. I can't wait for the Portland show. The shows last week are, IMO, better than anything I have seen post '91.

yeah I saw Ryan Seacrest on TV. Oh did you say "a cool NYE show"? I thought you said "a gay NYE show"!

Yup. Pink Floyd's-Time. Phil sang it and I heard it was god-awful.

Considering the quality performance of the other songs played that night it was the "ringer" that could have been better prepared. Other than that John K was hot in the mix (which was good) and it was the best NYE show I've seen since the late seventies IMO.

I will say one thing about Time, it was Phil and Bobby (mostly phil) who were awful on it. John K absolutely NAILED the guitar parts Chimenti was his usual genius on the boards and I thought the drummers played it really well.

I saw it (Time) on youtube. It wasnt that bad. I think that they should do covers. (like the GD did). My thought about Phil is that he just shouldn't sing as many tunes as he does these days. It used to be a treat to hear him sing. I have left P&F shows in the past when he sang too much. I never leave shows early. Pink Floyd live is another animal, they are very much a "production" band. They rehearse and rehearse and then they play those songs night to night as close as they (remaining members) have agreed to. This is there dynamic as a band these days. When Furthur played it , I bet alot of folks enjoyed it. Im just not sure that is a good direction for them to go. That being said, it seems they are becoming a cover band. If you listen to the Golden Road at midnight, it sounds very much like the original album version. This is not a bad thing per say. It just seems different because they (core 2) havent really copied music before. I always knew they could, they just didn't. This new band may do many strange and great and new things. I hope so. Its a new band.
