Greetings

In my never ending quest for tone I am starting to map out where I am going after I get my Resurrection and it checks out...

Currently playing a twin with Beyma liberty's.

I have a Cab loaded with 2 JBL E-120's that I will be working on (possible SMS pre-amp) and such...

I am really interested in finding a 1x12 tube amp that kicks ass. I have a K-120 I have been hanging onto for years. When I was A-B testing the SMS with a few guys on this site I was taken back by the tone coming out of 2 JBL K-110's ( those who were there know what I am talking about!). Never safe to assume but I am going under the impression the K-120 is similar in tone to the K-110 but is just a 12 incher.

Who can remmomend a sweet 1x12 tube so I can find a suitable home for my K-120?

I'd say you have two options:
1 - vintage fender say a Deluxe Reverb and pop it in for a great sound
2 - order an unloaded 1x12 from Fargen and agree that he he throws in your K120 - it would be like half a Twin.

Depends what you want.

I also don't know what I meant by " Light Kimock". I meant to say "like a Kimock Jerry tone." Clean, bell, present, fat, detailed and LOUD

Well Im in. I too want a new amp. I was on the fence for what I wanted, Fender, Vox, crappy, I wasnt sure. But I'm starting to think its going to be a FDR 70s. Throw a K or E in it and have a good little travel rig. This was mentioned before in another post but, is the Fargen mod a good deal? they are selling them on the bay for 400$. I like the vids they posted of the amp with the mods but I was wondering if anyone has this setup? It just brings me back to say why pay for an old amp, mod it, and have to be careful everywhere it goes? I start thinking, go to one of the box stores and get a Mesa combo and just say that is good enough? Any thoughts?

Why mod an old Fender? Just get a tune-up!

I'll sell you my 60watt reverb Mesa Mark III. I did the reverb mod on it (highly recommended)... I dunno about shipping it though!

I dont even own one yet, I just was looking into these and it seems that alot of folks are buying old and doing these types of mods. Myself, I would play it the way it came to me before any mods. Tune up for sure. I just am seeing these go for more money if they have already been modded. Of course.

Not true, JD. Depending on the mod they can go for more or less.

Example:
MOD 1 - install a master volume = less money
MOD 2 - remove caps & resistors and proper up the lead dress on a SF = many a tiny bit more if you live in a city with a reputable tech and the buyer is from said city and knows their work

I never thought of it that way. It would make sense that a vintage amp with no mods would be worth more. Like say a vintage Ibanez guitar, according to many Ibanez collectors, a modded guitar is worth less than one that is original. I can understand why but market value and actual worth are not the same. Wouldn't you agree?
