A friend sent this brief excerpt, closeups shot from right in front of the stage ... interesting to see how much Jim uses his whammy bar, kinda creepy to see how he rocks his head back singing like Bobby does ... he must practice in front of the mirror. LOL
I could *not* play that damn E riff that night, got it right maybe twice out of eight tries but went four for four at the end ... someone had a little bubble treat before the show that definitely didn't help matters. Click the video itself for a larger view.

Sweet Jam, even though you "missed" the notes, I feel like it really doesnt matter as long as you keep going! I imagine very few people at the show noticed!

This nicely illustrates a point I almost made last night in the LIG "The Jam" discussion, but it was way late and I didnt feel like tabbing: namely, that in the later versions of the song (check out 5/1/81 holy fiery guitar batman), Jerry goes for a higher part on the "Mellow Stepdowns", up to the F# at 19th fret/B string. In the early ones it seems he doubles the high note of Bob's double-stops, starting w/ the B at 12fret/B string. Not sure which year this change was made- I guess sometime between 77-79.
