Dead / Jerry type cabinets

I have a small shop that builds vintage style speaker cabinets. I'm not trying to become rich doing it at all. I actually love building this stuff and I average about 6.00 an hour. I do it for the art more than anything else and I have 0 overhead since my shop is paid for. I'm the founding member of a Dead band called the Schwag (I don't play in the Schwag any more but I still do subs with them once in a while) and played with this band for 8 years (including Kind Tuesday gigs) so I do appreciate tone. I have been building cabinets since 1977. I worked for Saint louis music (Crate, Ampeg) in the cabinet shop. My old buddy Brad Sarno told me about posting here and I am impressed with the respect shown to him. He deserves it! If anyone is ever building their own cabs or have any questions that I can help with please don't hesitate to ask. DIY truly goes hand in hand with our lifestyles as Deadheads.
I'm a huge gear head! I also continue to play music and to support other bands. I use 13 ply Baltic birch, all tongue and groove construction at corners as opposed to dado, I do dado speaker plates and backs into the side and top and I countersink all handles and jack plates! It is so time consuming but I want to over build and to be proud of my cabs. I'm open to all critiques and ideals.

Hey Tracy,

great to see you here at RU-Kind.

Folks, I can attest to Tracy's commitment, experience, and quality of work. A high integrity guy to deal with. I've still got my trusty old 1-12" K120 cab that he made for me in the early '90s, and after hundreds of gigs and lots of beating, this thing is solid as a rock. More recently I've seen a couple of national artists take possession of his 2-12" open back boxes loaded with K120's, and the stuff is gorgeous.

Brad

I think all of the speaker threads should be combined just because there seems to be more and more popping up lately. This is just IMO. Great looking cabinet by the way. You should check out Hogan's cabs too. Very nice and solid.

Thanks for the reply. Like I said, I'm brand new to the site and haven't had a chance to read through all of the threads but I have spent many hours enjoying a lot of this communal information, so far. Thanks for the input and for all who are freely sharing, as it should be.
