The Parker is GONE! It just wasn't me. Newly added...


This weekend there was a guitar show/sell/swap/trade a few minutes away.

Brought my Parker there to sell it or maybe trade it for a 2x10 combo........

Well, I start talking to the Rice family who builds guitars just minutes away and they offer up a sweet deal on her for my Parker and a few bucks my way!

All I can say is that this is an odd guitar but HOLY SHIT is she tonally balanced and soulful!!!

Douglas Fir wood on a guitar?! Never seen it before. But wow!

Is it a one piece body? a bolt on neck? Is that a bevel for the arm? love the grain and the shape.

that pine body looks great

One of my cooks who is a guitar playing wizard is building Tele's out of pine he gets from the log cabin restoration building right next door to us.

Makes the body , adds a carvin or warmoth neck, custom electronics and voila a nice very good sounding and playing guitar. When we jam everybody has to get a turn playin his tele....

He likes them better than his Mex or American Tele....if you are interested send me a pm ....I'll try to get some pics


I was told the original teles from the 50's and early 60's were made from pine...

Bet if plays better than it looks and it looks great!

I didn't think pine was a very good guitar wood. Seems like it would be to soft, but what do I know.

that is a light guitar. Not crazy about the body shape. But the sound is what counts. Enjoy it.

hotasaPistol - I've been hearing about guys building Teles out of old barns. Now here is a funny. I didn't realize a Douglas Fir was a pine. All I knew it was from Christmas trees. And until PINE was mentioned here I didn't put 2 and 2 together! Bwahaha.

b weird - I've never heard of a Douglas Fir guitar body before! But the TOTAL is impressive!

Kidding, of course. I'm always open to new ideas. I believe Fir is a little harder than regular pine. Any sound clips yet?

Okay, adding more to this story. The guitar is manufactured by Rice Custom Guitars.
They are a father and son team who are both musicians and luthiers and electronic gurus.
The other son also hand builds pickups which have awesome tonal properties!!!!!!

I spent about an hour just chatting with them before even trying one of their guitars.
My intent for that day was to get rid of the Parker which wasn't doing it for me anymore.
But the more we spoke the more interest I had in their line of guitars and working with them!

Thought I had my stable full of electrics: Strat, Tele, Epi Dot (semi-HB), Jackson, my custom.

But this baby had mini-humbuckers and it changed my mind. Then I played her and wow, oh, wow.

This guitars has the greatest setup of any guitar I have ever played. So perfectly tonally balanced.

Very much impressed.

Rusty, i have no clue on how to do sound clips. My first thinking is to simply do a youtube with her from my camera phone.

Firs (like Subalpine, White or Noble Fir) and Pines occupy separate genuses (genii?) within the Pinaceae family. Douglas-fir is in its own genus, not being a "true" fir. Here in Oregon, Doug-fir, true Firs, and a few others like Hemlock and Redcedar make up the wet forests west of the Cascade Range, and east of the mountains where the climate is much drier, the forests are mostly composed of Pines. My next door neighbor has 4 Doug-firs, all well over 100ft tall. Christmas trees around here are mostly Doug-fir, unless you've got the money for a Noble.
