I got this little peavey amp a buddy gave me a while back. Well I played with it for awhile in my bedroom turned down low and it was nothing spectacular but it will do. Today I took it into the living room and turned it up a little and it sounds horrible. It sounds like what people refer to as a blown speaker. Well done some looking online for guitar amp speakers and came up with one I think I will like a jenson I think the model is a cr8 whitch is an 8 in. speaker. The speaker is around 40 bucks. My question is would I be better of to just buy another amp or replace the speaker? The amp will be used just for around the house and little jam sessions no gigs. So any input on replacement speakers or cheap practice amps would be greatly appreciated. And if it makes a difference I am after a good clean bluesey tone. thanks in advance Chris..

These amps go for about $50 used so the new speaker is amost worth what the amp is worth. There are a bunch of new 10-30 watt SS amps, some w/10inch speaker on musiciansfriend.com for $50-100.

If you're gonna spend money, I would suggest an Epiphone Valve jr, the 5 watt Black Heart, or the Fender Champion 5watt. These are small tube amps and sound so much better than 10-30 watt solid state amps...but they cost 200-250 used....if you can swing it you won't regret.

I just saw this on The Gear Page....this is a great little amp and the price is right...anyone else want to chime in?


Fender "Champion 600" now only $129 at GC!

Just a heads up...I just picked up a NEW Fender champion 600 today at GC for only $129. That is the regular price now! Not sure why their site says $149? Pretty killer amp actually. The 6" speaker sounds pretty darn good. More like a 10". It's a 5 watt class-A. Super tiny and really cool. A few people have said they are noisy and have cheap chinese tubes. Mine is very quiet (even with single coils) and came stock with electro-harmonics tubes. Even on full volume the unit does not vibrate or make any unwanted vibration noises. Which most amps do.

I have a Tiny Terror, Bad Cat Mini, Gibson GA-5, 60's Supro Trojan, VOX AC4, EVJ.... The Chapion 600 has the most clean head room. With a TS9 and an external 2x12 cab it is even very convincing for rock stuff for the measly $129.

I would say it is THE recording amp for Jazz/Clean.
With the TS9 you could get into Aerosmith territory w/ a les paul.
