From last night ... Tennessee Jed ... guitar straight from AxeFX to the board.

I fattened it up some in the midrange, changed the virtual speakers to E120s from the K110s, now maybe just a little more drive-dirt to it and low mids ... should also point out that this is my 85 Strat with the Garcia electronics, not even a hard tail. I think the Tiger with Waldo's buffer would sound even fatter.

Interestingly, using more reverb than you think you need hearing it over the monitors sounds just about right on the board. You can hear the digital "springs" chirping in the simulation.

I didn't do anything to the straight guitar signal on mixdown, this is just as it was recorded pre-fader.

Sounds good. Detailed but not too brittle. However, this thread is worthless w/o zip or sysex attachments of that patch. See what you've started. You might as well change usernames, and go underground for a while.

One more thing I've been meaning to ask you about your live rig, why not use the e-120's on stage and then send the cab sim patch you used in the above clip to the board.
Put the effects loop block(second to last) on the Axe-fx before the cab sim block(last). Output 2 will feed the AI > 2X12 cab and Output 1 will feed the board. Seems like the best of both worlds. ~MJH

A couple reasons ... if I have the E120s on stage, I might as well mike the cabinet ... the sound is really very similar, as I've A/B'd the actual miked cabinet and the AxeFX output on separate channels in my studio. One of the nice things about using the powered wedges for the onstage sound is positioning it right where the vocal wedge goes. I hear everything much more clearly than using a miked cabinet behind me somewhere. This would be akin to putting a Twin Reverb, leaning back, at your feet, pointing at your face. Anyone who's done that realizes that's the best way to hear yourself in a band situation, rather than behind you to your right or left, and firing past you.

The second reason is if you have an onboard effects loop on the guitar, and want to keep the effects on the AxeFX, which I do, you plug the guitar effects loop output into input 1, it runs to the effects, then out again using the effects loop block. Primary guitar signal goes back in using output 2. So, both sets of inputs and outputs are in play. )But tapping off the second output gives you only straight guitar signal with effects, no amp, reverb, etc.)

However, the way I ran it for my test, I panned the cabinet block hard right, and using output one right to go to the board direct. Output left would go to the power amp and cabinet.

Running it in stereo gives you, in effect, four separately controllable inputs and outputs. Using the effects loop and you have two independent outputs.

I don't know about the enchilada...but it sounds just exactly perfect to me. Those highs are so clean and clear. Much of that attributable to your clean picking but the AxeFX sounds very nice. It's a relatively big chuck of money for the unit but it sounds like it does everything you need...impressed as always.

I'm back from Shoreline and this is a nice surprise! Vic, that sounds awesome THAT is crackling, definitely the close to the mark if not right on top of it. So then I say again, it's gotta be the Mac right?
