Hope everyone has a grate one

I had an awesome 4th. Me and mrs. jck_strw had a fiesta on the mountain at our house. Rukind's very own Laytonco performed with his band The Pranksters. I had people from all over my town (my town is small, like 1200 peeps) literally dancing in my street. The band was fucking awesome and the party was quite the success. Next year they need to keep playing during the fireworks and play a trippy-ass Dark Star.

Writing to report back from my All-American experience with the Grateful Dead at Rothbury just a couple days ago!

So as not to go off-topic... after 15 years of living in USA, I finally felt truly at home as the fireworks were going off during US Blues and everyone was dancing and singing as hard as they could after an already amazing night! And then we all declared that our Love would Not Fade Away

It was such a cleansing and cathartic experience... felt like I let go of a lot of cynicism that I had been holding towards America and the powers that be and turned that fear into love. I also was able to turn my girlfriend on to the magical powers of Grateful Dead music (she had a wonderful time) and to talk to old school Deadheads and tapers who all seemed happy that young whippersnappers like me were so into the music and history!

I also wondered during the show, and I hope that someone can clarify for me, are all the band members using American-made equipment? Cuz they sounded fantastic!@

Y'know I never thought about it much but for the most part they do afaik. Might be a Danish pedal here, or some Asian-sourced components in American-assembled amps or guitars there... that honkin' Digitech on Phil's rig is definitely made in Indonesia.

Rothbury was freakin sweet, I was there too!! I agree, their sound was extremely high quality, the guitars had such an amazing clarity to them, I just wanted to take in every note! I think Warren found a tone he could really get excited about and he was melting my face off lol. There were a lot of amazingly talented younger bands at the festival but I think the Dead took it to a new level and definitely proved that they're still the best around at what they do (Umphrey's has to be a close second, I saw them right after the Dead and thought they were phenomenal). Can't wait for a recording to come out.

I caught Shpongle right after but went and listened to Umphrey's for like a half hour and they definitely have an interesting style... I got really excited about their cover of The Who's Eminence Front

Other awesome shows were put on by Les Claypool, Railroad Earth, Yonder Mountain String Band, Ani DiFranco, Peter Rowan's Bluegrass Band, and Zappa plays Zappa.

Thanks for the heads up... is there any info out on the boys' rigs for this tour? First time seeing Bobby and he blew me away. He played this one giant chord on like 5 or 6 strings that just about swallowed the whole song (and my whole universe at the time) - incredible!

On another note, I wonder if the fireworks were American or not...

How was Dylan? What did he play?

I had to leave early so I only caught a couple songs from Dylan... heard him warbling Tangled Up in Blue as we were walking away... wish I could have stayed for the whole thing but my girlfriend had work early the next morning. He seemed to be pretty into it but his vocals were too low for the time we heard... seemed to clear up a bit as we were leaving... I think the event brought a good show out of him though. Curious to hear what someone who saw the whole show thought!!!

Lol I thought Bob (and Willy, for that matter, too) were cool to hear, although mainly just to say I saw them! After 3 nights of intense facemelting music I think it's hard to really rage over more straightforward music like Bob or Willy. Thought Willy was hilarious though, lol. Funny story about the Bob show, though....I was at Gov't Mule and started walking over to meet some friends at Bob, I'm almost through the forest and I hear Gov't Mule start playing The Other One! Needless to say myself and half of the people I saw around me did an instant 180 to go back and hear it lol. Good stuff.

Gov't Mule doing TOO???? I had to pack up my campsite and was forced to miss the Mule show!!! What a bummer!!! Ahhhh! Oh well, gonna have to d/l it off etree, thanks for the heads up!
