I was not a real fan and I admit I was the first to crack a Michael Jackson joke but I got really sad when I heard that he died today.

Maybe it was because I grew up with his music all around me ever since both he and I were little kids.

Beat it....

He definately turned into a nut job*, but early Jackson 5 stuff was really good. At the time, they "competed" with the Osmonds.....and let me tell ya brother......it was no real competition.

I also did really enjoy a lot of the stuff on Thriller.

*Apparently, dad had a lot to do with that.........it's also hard to imagine how any of us would deal with life reaching fame and fortune at such an early age.

It's funny I was listening to some Jackson 5 at work early this morning and man, that kid could SING! Ever since a girl got me listening to it so many years ago now, I've really dug it. And yes thriller was awesome. Crazy...

The Victory Tour show at the old JFK Stadium in Philadelphia in 1984 was my first concert, I was 8 and a huge fan. He definitely went off the deep end over the last 15 or so, which was a sad spectacle, but Thriller is still to this day one of my favorite albums.

If nothing else, he could dance. My wife and daughters are all dancers. In the classic sense.

The moon walk was incredible. Some songs were actual songs, also.

The first thing I thought of was Keith Richards has inexplicably out lived yet another performer. If I said to you 15 years ago Michael Jackson would die before Keith Richards every person here would have split a side laughing at me. True Story.

Definitely not for everyone, but if you can't get down to Billie Jean then you just can't get down.

I was comparing concerts we had seen with a friend on the way into the Clapton/Winwood show... the only one he was jealous of not seeing was the Victory Tour. Amazing show...

I'd love to have had his talent, but I'm sure glad I didn't have his life.

Not a fan, but it's always sad when someone dies....I quoted the above because I work with folks who deal a lot with what's called DID (Dissociative Identity Disorder) and used to be known as multiple personality disorder----it is almost ALWAYS associated with years of trauma (in his case physical abuse/god knows what else, possiblities are endless)....anyway, a person commented earlier today at work that he "was probably the most famous undiagnosed "multiple" known on earth. That would also explain his various other odd/concerning/abusive? behaviors that everyone has heard about.
Lots of studies have also shown that people that have had a lot of trauma tend to die earlier (very taxing on one's overall system for sure) and have (obviously) more of every kind of problems one might have, physical/mental, etc.....I'm not surprised that he died young.
