I'm finding info online indicating that the Beyma Liberty-8 is a reasonable facsimile of the JBL E-120. Any truth to this?

Loud, heavy and expensive, yeah that's a reasonble facsimile.

That's all I've read too. In reviews, nobody seems to be saying how great they are.
But that they are the closest to the E120 as far as replicas go...

This is an old one but my twin is loaded with Beyma Liberty 8's. Like any new speaker it took some time to break in but tonally I am happy with them.

The playing on Jack Straw and Eyes is fantastic. Nice job.

I did a quick A/B comparison with Kier's amp with his Beyma's and my JBL cabinet and they sound VERY close. I slightly preferred the JBL's - but I stress - slightly... They sound great.

Kier did mention that they had a break in period though - I suppose JBL's do too

I like to remind people that a new speaker will never sound like a broken in speaker, so it's never fair to compare or judge any speaker when it's in its first few dozen hours of use. Paper really seriously softens up and the treble and midrange will dramatically change as the speaker breaks in. New speakers sound harder and brighter in the upper mids and treble. The bass too will change, but the warmth and sweetness of a speaker is never truly there right out of the box. If someone has a room or place back in the basement where they can do a burn in session, it always helps speed the process along. Just set up the speaker with an amp and pump some Jerry or whatever from an iPod or CD player thru it and just run the speaker as loud as you feel comfortable (within reason) and do that for a few days. Violin heavy music helps the mid and treble band, and groove and beat heavy stuff will help open up the lower end of the spectrum. It really works. Only once a speaker is well broken in is it fair to make comparisons with others.

I'd like someone with a well broken in Beyma to offer some comparisons to a broken in JBL E.

I think I am your guy Brad...

My Beyma's have been loaded since April of 07 (about as broken in as you will find?) so they are well broken in. I also have a seperate cab loaded with JBL E120's. It's not all connected but it's a project going on. Once I get my Resurrection with Waldo's buffer and such I will record a serious A-B comparison and post it. I did some recordings a year or so ago and liked the sound of the Beyma, hence still being loaded. I also had it in the back of my mind thta I was saving the E-120's for somthing. I think my Resurrection is the answer but I am afraid we will have to wait anohter 2-3 months...

I tried Keir's Beyma's and then switched over to my JBL cabinet - they definitely sounded really good - very very close to the jbl's
