Before I became obsessed with the Grateful Dead, baseball was my #1 obsession. Growing up, it was totally obvious to me (if not to others), that I was going to grow up and become a baseball player. I grew up outside Philadelphia so I grew up a huge Phillies fan. I _never_ missed a game back in the day. The voice of the Phillies was Harry Kalas. I grew up with Harry and everytime I hear his voice, it always brings me back to my house on Longwood Drive, on Saturday afternoons, channel 29.

Maybe that's why I'm so upset that he passed away today--another element from my childhood is gone.

Others may have heard Harry from NFL Films or Chunky Soup commercials (or even the recent Puppy Bowl on Animal Planet). But to me he will always be the voice of the Phillies. And today is a sad day for people that loved Harry.

Countless NFL films shows I watched. I am sad for many reasons, one was that I always had the dream of having him do a voice over for my high school football highlight film.

That's dying with your boots on... like Freddy King or Mark Sandman... or Lord Nelson. RIP.
