Stuck Inside of Mobile

What a fun song to listen to but seriously does anyone else feel it's about twice as long as it should be?

(FTR, I'm sure next year it'll be my favorite Bobby cover)

It is loonng.. I don't really love the dead version, but like it. I am attached to this song for two reasons...
one is my grandfather was a ragman-sold rags, and
two I went to high school on Grand St.
so
the fist line is
Well the ragmand draws circles up and down the block
and the firsts line of the last verse
Now the bricks, they lay on Grand Street where the neon madmen climb
and besides all the lyrics are GREAT, definately not one of Dylans throw aways
and the turnaround at the end of the bridge -chorus is great too!
My problem is the oversinging the dead do on this song.

I dig it BUT I must be in the mood for it or I'll pass over it a lot.

Other Dylan Tunes I never cared for covered by the boys...

"Queen Jane" just never connected for me on any level.

I use to like "Quinn the Eskimo" but now view it as another lame throw away encore...an attitude the boys (esp. Jerry) had way too much when it came to encores. I heard that Jerry didn't like doing encores at all but felt obligated and oft coaxed into them. I know with the GD there where a few shows throughout the years lacking encores but I think he blew them off them more with his own band.

For some reason I never cared for "Baby Blue" but I've started warming up to it the last couple of years, (I know, I know...it's a classic).

Yes. Very long. Lyrics are great but still, too long given it just repeats over and over. I love the chords/music and like playing it....a lot like Tangled up in Blue, but I do think it's too long.

I almost think the GD did the tune just so Bob could be proud to remember all the lyrics....It might have been a deranged form of compensation for constantly flubbing lyrics to songs he wrote (truckin for ex) and then somehow remembering all the words to Mobile.

and freakin' Desolation Row. I mean, come on Bob, you can spout either of those two perfectly then flub "most of the cats that you meet on the street...."?!

I kinda wondered if they didn't like the longer Dylan tunes to kinda take a break. Besides the lyrics the song is a breeze and a nice time to chill while playing!

"Desolation" kicked ass.

Look at all the lyrics Jerry botched on songs he sang hundreds of times and then pull off a flawless "Visions of Johanna"...go figure.

8,759 words? You mean 584 words.

words like time are relative.

I started playing this one a few months ago. I like it. Sure I don't have all the verse memorized, but it has that balsy riff and the chorus is fun too. I like playing Phil's walkdown in the chorus when I am soloing. fun times.

I also like it for alternative chord positions.

I wouldnt even consider memorizing all the words. I cant remember shit these days!

You know one of the problems is staying on top of it too. Once you take the time to memorize it all, you have to play it a lot. Otherwise it starts to leak out and you have to do it again.
