I've had this bass project in the planning stages for a few months now, and took a huge step forward yesterday. I've been keeping it well under wraps - even the band doesn't know - but maybe now's the time to reveal my plans.

What a great project. I'll keep an eye peeled for more photo references for the paint job. You have someone lined up to do that, or going to try yourself?

Me? I can't even write my own name legibly. My mom is a great painter, she's been recruited for the task. Any and all pictures would be really helpful! Here are all the ones I've gathered so far:

The last thing I have to figure out is which machinist I'll have make the custom tailpiece. It almost looks like I could do it myself with handtools if I could get my hands on the metal stock. What do you think it is made of, brass?

Probably chrome-plated brass, but who knows it could be titanium alloy carved from the nose cone of an SR-71 spy plane...

Wow. They seriously just stuck a 30.5" bass neck on an SG body, changed the routing a tiny bit, and called it a bass. This thing is TINY. And light.

Small progress but a big step.



Next is grain filler, cherry red stain, routing for second pickup, drilling for extra knobs, and making pickguard and backplate. Then it comes back and gets a bridge.
