I'm in love with Dickey Betts, He has long been one of my favs. Saw him up close and personal last night at a club that is probably 1500 max. Great Southern is just so damn good IMO. The tone, energy, presence- everything is just there for me.
Yesterday was the St. Pats parade which equates to one of Buffalo's biggest party days and I think Dickey and crew got right into the spirit. Hit us hard from the first note and didn't stop until midnight.

Don't be afraid to admit that. Hell, I still think the reason I haven't caught a truly great ABB show since '98 is because of Dickey being gone. I know Trucks has his fair share of fans but I'd give anything to see Dickey with them again.

FWIW, last time I saw Dickie was about 5-6 years ago (missed his last show in town) at a ribfest for a whopping $5. He was supposed to play from 6:30- 8:30. He actually played from 5:45 to 8:45. Totally jammed his ass off. His band was F'n great too. Dangerous Dan can bring the jams as well.
I think maybe his "departure" from the ABB was a good thing for him in retrospect.

I'm also a big DB fan.
I was just copping some licks off of his DVD the other day for Blue Sky and Jessica.
Dan Toller is great too. I've seen them both with the ABB back in the day.

I loves me some DB too! I got to play some acoustic stuff for about a half an hour with him backstage in Ohio a few years back. I just happened to be there because a friend of mine was doing lights that evening and was lucky enough to meet and jam with him. A really cool cat indeed.

I'm right there with ya! Dickey is tops. Blue Sky is one of the greatest songs I've ever heard and playing it is a blast! I was hoping that he'd be one of the guests at the ABB run at the Beacon and that they might invite him on the latest tour, but I'm not holding my breath. Also, he has Andy Aledort playing with him and Andy is this Hendrix freak who has tabbed out all of Hendrix's songs and Andy's done Instructional DVD's, tab books for Hal Leonard, etc. including playing at most of the Experience Hendrix shows. Oh, and he works for GW magazine. An incredible guitarist in his own right and a great compliment to Dickey.

He's giving Duane a lot of lead time these days but other than that he doesn't do much up there. Being the son of Dickey and named after Duane Allman can't bring to much pressure can it?

The tone and rythm laid out by Andy, Pedro and mike (I think that's the keyboard name) is fierce.

Not to forget Frankie Lombardi who sounds like two guys playing the same kit.
I would put Great Southern head to head with the Allmans anyday.

Dickey rocks. His playing is just stupendous sometimes. I won't bother seeing the ABB again unless they get him back. I don't consider them the ABB without him.

I am with ya on that. He was the soul behind the band after Duane.

They don't have the attitude they used to without Dickey, which is a big part of their music for me. Just not quite 'Rednecky' enough for this grit eater...

Dickey is one of the few still standing who I will make the effort to see live anymore.

I agree with the last couple of posts. I haven't seen the ABB since Dickey left, saw them about 10 times with Dickey, and am in no hurry to see them without him. He is an amazing player and brings so much to the stage regardless of who else is playing with him.
