I've got two recordings and want to upload one to the archive... but which one? One was recorded by our Bobby and one by a fan, both AUD. One got the complete show and one only got set 2.

Yeah, I left the technical info out on purpose!

I listened to both A and B mp3s as they were quicker to DL

B is clearly better IMO

I didn't have time to listen to it. I liked B just fine tho.

A is a much nicer recording when listening to the whole thing. It's smoother overall and I hear a clearer separation of instruments.
Without the hoots and hollers of your fans having a blast it could almost have sounded studio on a budget.

B has a certain raw energy that is nice too! But I do not hear the keys or rhythm guitar as clearly and bass was more subtle.

I really liked the mix but IMO you need more B (60-70%) than A (40-30%) IMO the B mix just needs a little nicer high-end chime that the guitar has.

Thank you for your thorough review, S6! That's exactly the kind of feedback that I was hoping to get. I wish the drunken singalongs could happen away from the mics but I can't complain that our fans are having a good time!

I'm almost done preparing and uploading the recording - I ended up putting B on the left and A on the right, and B was naturally louder overall, whereas A had more dynamic range so I followed your ratios without even having to boost or cut anything. I also was more careful to align the timing, and instead of summing each to mono before panning them, I took just the left side of B and the right side of A for a cleaner stereo feel. There ends up being just a tiny offset, only noticeable on the drums, which makes us sound more like we have two drummers. It was a lot of work but I hope the results are worth it.

For the record:

A is Senheuser 421s into DAT
B is Audiotechnica 650s into Minidisc.

And here's the final version! I'm pretty proud of how it came out - you get a good stereo feel, especially on the crowd chatter. I even left a short track of it in there, while we were deciding what to do with some extra time after Set 2. I also really like our first attempt at Space... It came out more Loud than Spacey but it'll melt your face off..
