I just saw this last night and thought it was a very good movie. There were some hilarious scenes in this film. Have you seen it yet and what were your thoughts?

OMG, hated every minute of it. I love those stream of movies too.

In his previous roles his character has been one I relate too or their moves have had themes that were familiar albeit far out and unrealistic for the sake of comedy.

This was a comedy of error by idiots doing more idiotic things. Watching stupid people being stupid doesn't translate to comedy to my tastes.

By "his" you mean Seth Rogan? He was excellent in this film and Franco was nominate for a Golden Globe for his role. You must not be into comedies if "stupid people doing stupid things" is not comedy to you. s

I had such high hopes for this movie (pun intended) that it let me down. Everyone told me it was so great and I did laugh at a few parts, but the movie wasn't that good. The violence was kinda annoying. I much preferred other stoner films to this one. Imho, Grandma's Boy was much better.

Who are you to decided what qualifies as a comedy? And who are you to say what I enjoy or do not enjoy.

Shit, going by that criterea, it knocks out like 90% of the comedies out there. I dug Pineapple.

I use idiot very harshly but probably not as clear. There is a difference between a goofy person and an idiot to me.
When I called them idiots I meant: unlikable, unrelatable, intollerable, etc. People I would avoid in real life.

But even at the implied connotation of idiot I'd say 90% is high but also there are alot of bad movies out there.

40 y/o virgin - he was a goofy character but likable and not necessarily dumb
Knocked up - some were foolish but the main people were relatable

Office space, blazing saddles, Pryor & Wilder, Pryor, older Steve Martin (man with 2 brains) etc = the list goes on...

As someone wise once said, "It's a fine line between clever and stupid." Haven't seen the movie yet, but have it as "Very Long Wait" on my Netflix queue.

Comedy is an art form, therefore it is subjective. If it makes you laugh, then it's funny, if it doesn't make you laugh, then you didn't find it funny. I have a few friends who are comics, one has actually "made it" and others are now regular job people. I have always said that being a stand up comic is the toughest job out there in the arts by far.

You hit on something, 9.5. Comics are usually more intelligent people.

See, now there ya go. I dug "Pineapple" but didn't really care for "Superbad" for some reason. Thanks for clarifying yourself Strumminsix, I understand you more clearly now. I still found the characters in "Pineapple" likeable enough.

One of my favorite movies/dark comedies ever is "Fargo", and most of those peple are repulsive (except Fracis Mcdormand's character).
