Wondering if anyone has played one of these new Fender road worn starts. I'm thinking of snagging one of the 60's up and doing some jackofroses mods to it. Local shop just got 5 of them in so i plan on going tomorrow to check them out. here's a link.

I find Fenders to be very consistent from guitar to guitar. When i bought my last strat, I played maybe 10 different ones and the differences were so minute and insignificant that I was amazed. If you like the worn finish look, then go for it, but for that money you should look at an American Standard strat before you decide.

Hmmm, you can probably pick up a used American made one for a good bit less than that. Hell, I'd sell you mine for less than that, and it's got some wear to it and some upgrades. Myself, I actually don't find Fenders consistent from one guitar to the next at all. Don't get me wrong, I love them, but it takes me awhile to find one that feels right.

I mean within the same model.

I'm not a fan of the " broken in " or " vintage look " at all.
It's just xtra $$$$$ added on to the price. BS if ya ask me ...

if you are gonna go all modded out you might as well go used guitar - save money and no worries if Doc Frankenstein's patient dies on the table.
depending on how the store sets up or doesnt set its gits there could be inconsistency from git to git ...

I meant within the same model too - I'm sure some of it has to do with setup, as Tjed said, but I just find Fenders spotty. For instance, not too long ago I was playing an American Deluxe Strat ( a 2008 model ), with the S-1 switching, and was just absolutely in love. Didn't buy it though, and about a month later, picked one up - same model, even the same finish - at a different place, and it wasn't even like it was the same guitar. Cold, dead, lifeless, etc. Telecasters are even more hit or miss than Strats, imho.

That being said, yeah, I would personally look around for a good used one for that kind of money, and beat the snot out of it yourself if that's what you're into. But, if you love the guitar, and have the money, do what makes you happy.

Interesting. The bunch that I played for comparison were all at the same shop and probably all came in at the same time so may have been part of the same manufacturing batch, and the shop (I think) takes good care to set up each guitar before it goes out on the wall. I was really shocked by the consistency of them. They were all the plain jane normal strat that goes in the mid 400s. Perhaps there is more variation from batch to batch than within a batch.

i dont really dig the preworn thing. id go with an american standard or highway one instead

I do always kind of find it amusing when you see a guy in like his early 20's or late teens with a beat to shit "vintage" Strat or Telecaster. It's kind of like, so, been abusing that guitar since twenty years before you were even born, eh?

Now, if you are 22 and can actually AFFORD a real 60's Strat then all I can say is

I see what you guys are saying, now it seems pretty stupid to buy a beat looking guitar when i can look for used one probably a lot cheaper and if i want beat the thing myself. Thanks for the input i now see the light.

The only benefit to these "vintage" or "relic" or "worn" is that you don't get that awful heartache when you give it the first bruise.

So your telling me if i have a guitar that doesn't look prestine that it makes me less of a musican. Wow, ok i'll take your word for it considering your a Senoir Member here.
Thats brillant i'm leaving work early to go home and make sure all my guitars are set up perfectly and nice and shiney otherwise i just won't get the respect that real mucians get. Thanks for the advice.

I agree with you 100% guitars are made to be played looks don't make a bit of a difference. I think some people just like to talk a bit to much and just don't know any better. Hey it happens, I listen to all and believe half most times in this case i think someone just needs to pound some road salt.
