Ch,Ch,Ch, Changes...



I noticed that the "most recent posts" link on the main page is gone and the phatboy forum is locked, is this a sign of our bad behavior?

we probably deserved it...

Its probably more due to all the PHP/other errors/overall slowness that have been happening lately. Things are working much better for me today, as far as navigating and posting and so forth.

In terms of the "most recent posts" feature, that thing was really quite a resource hog.

One thing I learned from analyzing the logs last night is that there are lots of "curious" people on the internets. If you give them the capabilities, they may just turn their "curiosity" into "malicious" behavior.

I blame myself for some of the scripts I have left open for people to click and use, and with the perfect storm, one could take down this site pretty easily. So last night I removed the major culprits, and unfortunately the feature listed above is one of the worst.

As a member of the forum, however, this functionality does exist, you just have to log in to get the link (much like searching).

In terms of the phatboy forum, I really didn't see the point of carrying that conversation any further.

I find I'm using the "Posts since last login" feature, in a manner similar to "Most recent posts".
Is that the jist of it's purpose?

same here Pete, its really helpful, I probably would have never used it if I wasn't in this situation. Plus I guess this way, it forces you to be a member to search the forums instead of pulling them up in google or yahoo searches...right?

Google will still scan every post of every topic, however, non members will not be able to search the site as easily as members can. So, essentially, someone who does not want to join this site should use google to search the forums, while members can use the search function on this site.
