Has anyone read or seen other bands or musicians that have spoken negatively or positively about the Dead? The connections to the Jam band scene is obvious but maybe other artists that we would not think of having been influenced by the boys.

Archie Brown and the Bucks
Bring me the head of Jerry Garcia
He plays guitar like diarrhea
He's dumb as a doorknob and a ton overweight
That's why they call him the dreadful grate
He can't fingerpick because his hand's incomplete
He needs two drummers just to find the beat
His words are as solid as a cloud of smoke
If that guy is deep, then I'm the pope!
Bring me the head
Bring me the head
Bring me the head of Jerry Garcia
Bring me the head
Bring me the head
Bring me the head of Jerry Garcia
Dead!...Head!...Dead!...Head!...Dead!
Bring me the head of the Grateful Dead
His fans think the sixties are a tire retread
From Frisco to Red Rocks, from N.Y. to Wembley
They dance around in circles like a Moonie assembly
They eat lots of reds and vitamin C
They drink cheap wine laced with LSD
They drop and snort but without any luck
Because whatever they're on - the Dead still suck!
Bring me the head
Bring me the head
Bring me the head of Jerry Garcia
Bring me the head
Bring me the head
Bring me the head of Jerry Garcia
Dead!...Head!...Dead!...Head!...Dead!

Saw the Dead Milkmen (of "Bitchin' Camaro" fame) play Cabaret Metro in 85 or so... a free pass iirc, can't think that I would pay, since I was never really a fan. I
was a fan of several bands from the L.A. and San Fran hardcore punk scene of that era and saw most of them play the Metro over 85-86ish... Anyway DM did a parody version of Sugar Magnolia that cracked me up:
Sugar Magnolia
F@#* you, a$$hole,
You'll dance to anything
You don't care

HA! BTW, love me some punk! Sadly Chicago never really had much of a punk scene that I was familiar with so my tastes are more more mainstream like Ramones etc However I do totally enjoy Green Day. Who from my die-hard punk friends say are crap but I think they capture something that is a combination of old-school, new school and even have bits of jamminess in there!

haha funny stuff so far. Tiger, didnt you say you saw Dead Kennedy's once around then too? pretty cool...
On the postive side, ive heard some praise as well as a few covers (Loser, Ship of Fools) from Elvis Costello.
For some reason that cheesy song that mentions "a deadhead sticker on a cadallic" comes to mind. I think its I Can See You, or at least thats how the chorus begins.

Don Henley - Had a deadhead phase of some sort when he was younger evidently - here's the relevant lyric
Out on the road today I saw a deadhead sticker on a cadillac.
A little voice inside my head said:
Don't look back
you can never look back.
I thought I knew what love was
what did I know?
Those days are gone forever
I should just let them go but:
I can see you
your brown skin shining in the sun
You got that top pulled down and that radio on
baby.

A local band named Rollin' In The Hay plays a song called
Miracle Ticket. It's a humorous story about a guy's quest to find a ticket to a Grateful Dead show. You can stream it here:
