Hey now everybody,

So my band, theCAUSE, is learning Lazy Lightning right now and we've recently added a couple of other cool tunes to the repertoire (Catfish John - JGB, Romance Without Finance from Little Feat to name a couple) and I'm wondering what tunes y'all think we should add, as well.

Here are a couple of things to keep in mind:

First off - we have but one guitarist. Second, typically we have only 2-part harmony, so St. Stephen...as much as I wanna...I'm having a hard time saying, "Lets go for it!" when there's not that 3-part harmony. Once in a while we have it and there are SOME tunes where we can do it, so long as David's part (causebass) isn't out of his register (he's a baritone all the way). Last thing to remember is that I'm not a wicked-fast or a natural lead-guitarist, so there are just some songs (like a BUNCH of Phish tunes) that I'm just not willing to attempt in order to save myself embarrassment!!!

SO, if you wanna - check out our songlist (just recently updated, mind you!) at www.theCAUSEjams.com/tunes and see what we already do. We play GD (of course), JGB, Phish, Dylan, Little Feat, Clapton and some other goodies, too. ALSO - if you see any corrections that need to be made on that list, let me know (like credits for authoring the song, etc.).

As for the tunes, I'm at a loss to suggest anything knowing you don't have a lineup with a second guitar in the mix. I have found your stuff to be remarkably adept to the choices and I'm at a loss to explain how you guys pull it off with the lineup you have.

They are always positive and upbeat and although they are From Pittsburgh they are wailing.Smoking even.
I always try to check out whatever people post music wise - someday I will post some stuff as I am on the cusp of junior jam master.Just wait til I get my shit together - then you will know the power of Spam !

TJedi - always sticking up for me, yet still taking your shots at the 'Burgh - gotta love you, man. And, as far as Sultans goes, I've done it with PBJ and know all the words. Not a bad choice - it'd be up to the rest of the band to see if they wanna do it. Jack Lambert is the greatest football player ever!!!

Weirimpressed - I will see if we have a decent enough version and, if so, I'll get David to throw it up on our site...we don't do it EXACTLY like Phish, but we get the point across, I think.

I am mentioning tunes that I and friends have had a lot of success with in my bands and their bands.

Them Changes - Buddy Miles

always a great rocker for people, pretty recognizable, and you can always break it down for the epic Jam in E and come back with the riff. unless of course you tune down like Hendrix.

Right Down Here - JJ Cale

great vibe, just a great song.

Hymn 43 - Jethro Tull

Need to have a good piano player, I haven't listened to you guys so I dunno. But I used to do it with a band and it just killed it every time.

I don't think I know "Them Changes" but I'm sure gonna grab it off of iTunes tonight when I get home from THE STEELER GAME (Jedi!)...

I definitely am not familiar w/ the JJ Cale tune, but I think he's great, love the stuff I DO know, so I will grab THAT from iTunes as well! (Sidebar: Have you heard the Cale/Clapton collaboration "The Road To Escondido"? Great album, IMO).

Hymn 43 is a STUPENDOUS choice...one of my favorite Tull tunes, although my first JT preference would be the obvious "Locomotive Breath" as I completely dig that groove...slow it down a touch, groove it a bit...all of a sudden, it's kinda psychedelic!

For What It's Worth - great song; used to do it w/ my old band and I love singing it...eventhough I know that's not what you meant but thanks for what you DID mean, Crazy9.5Fingers.

Would have to listen to both tunes of course. HEY the best thing that's happened w/ this thread is that I get turned on to some material I've never heard before!!
