If I were to move the chords down two frets (ie: Bm to Am) does that mean I move the solo down two frets too? I'm thinking yes but ya never know.

Yeah you would move the solo too. Just as you would move everything up if you used a capo, you would move everything down as well.

Does anyone know if Jerry ever did this song in one of his solo bands? Maybe somewhere between 90-95?

Though, I do dig the Spanish version of "Hotel California" from "The Big Lebowski".

I don't care if I ever hear another Eagles tune in my life, except maybe "In the City" or "Seven Bridges Road".

I completely agree. The only thing redeeming about The Eagles is the Gipsy Kings cover of Hotel California.

I'm gonna disagree with all of you. I think that version (assuming we're talking about the same one...kinda sounds reggae-ish?) sucks.

The Eagles were a great band, IMO. Joe Walsh on guitar? Henley's & Frey's vocals?? Suck??!!! You're telling me you didn't like Hotel California the first time you heard it? Has it been played to death? Yes....but because it's very popular. Why is it popular? 'Cause it's that good.

In The City....one of the weakest Eagles tunes ever, IMO...sorry!!! Life In The Fast Lane...much better. New Kid In Town is kinda "El Paso"ish...I like that tune. And listening to Take It To The Limit right after 'doing it' and falling asleep to that chorus...niiiiiiiiiiiiice.

The end solo of Hotel California is one of the best written solos in rock & roll. Joe Walsh & Don Felder RIP it.

The Eagles were a great band. DIFFERENT than GD and the ilk - certainly not in the 'Jam Band' category. But a great band, nonetheless.

Not sure why this is a "Hotel California" specific question. This is referred to as transposing and applies to any song.

Gonna have to agree with you pappy. I grew up on the Eagles and perhaps I have a soft spot in my heart for them because of that. But still, I think they were a kick ass band. One ofthe best shows I ever saw was them at the Shoreline on the Hell Freezes Over tour back in '93(?)....wow...long freakin' time ago.

I agree that the fact that Hotel California is overplayed doesn't make it a lame song. That's like saying that Stairway to Heaven is a shitty song because you've heard it 80 million times.

I guess my question is not only appliable to Hotel California but that was the song I wanted to move around so I just used Hotel California.

LOL i'll take "In the city" over fast lane any day of the week. The Eagles deserve alot of credit for their harmonies, those guys can sound ridiculously good. that is if you appreciate that sorta thing as do I

anyway i saw them in 1994 Hell freezes over tour, they did a whole acoustic set + the spanish guitar Hotel Cali. A very , very well written song, but still i could care less if i ever heard it again. Sheryl Crow opened for them, it was at least a year before she had anything on the charts, none of us had ever heard of her.

anyway the Eagles are fantastic songwriters and performers, just a bit "trite" for my taste. too many slow sappy love songs. and the Henly stuff from the 80's - yeesh. Those synth tones from that era are just obnoxiously horrible to listen too. too bad cause there are alot of decent tunes written by many a great artist that got ruined by bad taste. Brent Mydlands "just a little light" comes to mind. That single strike of synth in the main lick is enough to make me gag lol. Love brent tho
