Probably a silly question; but I'm a silly guy!

Now, when you are dialing in your sound - specifically with split-coils - do you adjust the bass/mid/treb on the amp to the single coil and notch the vol down when you go to bucker mode, or do you dial into a bucker and crank the vol up for the single coil?

Inquiring minds want to know!

Set it to sound good with the s/c selected, and USE the extra oomph when/if I go to humbucker.

I typically dial in my favorite SC vol/tone.
Also, You might consider using a volume pedal.
I have split coils on my Carvin, and find it easier to control volume with a pedal than with the guitar controls.
In this case, you need to set up the amp so that the max volume you want with the single coils is when the pedal is about 85-95% to full volume (leave a little room for pedal based sustain).
Using this method you can simutainiously switch to/from SC/HB and keep the volume right where you want it.
Not for everybody... works for me!
You could also use a booster pedal in conjunction with your single coils (I have used the Seymour-Duncan Booster pedal, 25db clean boost).

I'm a fan of using relatively large cap values for my treble bleed cap on my humbuckers. When I say large, I mean large enough (if my memory is correct now, 1000pf) that when I turn down my volume pot on my buckers, I actually gain a bit of treble. Not exactly your question but may help you find the best possible solution to your issue. Good luck!

I just a couple weeks ago switched the volume pedal from it's position after the fx and before the pre to the amps fx loop,so it's after the pre, but before the power section. Makes all the difference in keeping a clean tone with either pup configuration and consistent stage volume.

Also got a Loop Master box - thx for the idea Jon! - huge difference, even if it's only a three loop rig:

loop 1: Rte 66, OC2, Emma
loop 2: wah
loop 3: phase90, old DoD chorus, DD3
Keely 808 runs pre-loops and is TB.

Tell me about it... This is known as the ADD pedal board... because I'm either always trying to add something to it or the general clutter is totally telling of my ADD.
