So today is another drinking holiday! I'm still not sure why we celebrate the Mexican army's victory over the French (when a year later the French fully invaded Mexico city anyway.) but what the hell! Beer!

Anyway here is the question, I don't drink Mexican beer. I've had like 3 Corona's in my life but never been much of a fan. I love beer. (Strong Ale's and IPA's particularly.) but I'm going to a Cinco De Mayo party and would like to bring some good Mexican beer. So what is everybody's favorite?

Well, I'm not really into Mexican beer, but there are a couple of decent ones out there. This is what I'd recommend:

Negra Modelo - Good dark one
Dos Equis Amber - Nice amber

They're nothing spectacular, but certainly beat drinking Corona

to me good mexican beer is an oxymoron, but I bet hesgone95, our representative in mexico, may have an opinion. (although I do like a lime in my beer)

I'll second those Negra Modelos.

Had those down in La Paz, Mexico one week on a sea kayaking trip. Ice cold, siesta middle of the day fare in the shade of the patio section of the hotel during the mid-day heat, with tortilla chips and celantro heavy salsa. Makes me want to take the day off right now but I can't!

Actually, Mexicans make good beer, Corona just isn't one of them. Corona is piss water at best. I have been to Mexico a few times and never saw a Mexican drinking one. I think that is just cheap horrid beer that through some excellent marketing, the Mexicans have convinced us Gringos to pay them big bucks for. I don't blame them, if I was smart enough to figure out how to get them to pay me big bucks for bad beer, I would sure as hell do it.

Modelos are good beer. Everything I have had from Dos Equis was at least decent. I haven't seen the amber in the liquor stores near me, I will have to keep my eyes open for that. I have had other good beers there too, I'm not remembering any brands right now, if I think of them (or find them on the internet), I will post them.

For the record, Cerveceria de Modelo make both Negra Modelo and Corona. Both good beer IMO.

I am in the tequila business and travel to Mexico quite often. I would say the Negra is the best thing that comes out of Modelo. The other beer company there is Sol, and SOl beer is definitely not as good as Corona so I would say stay away from Sol or the new Sol Dos, (Sol 2) if you think Corona isn't good.

I like the aforementioned idea of bringing tequila, just make sure it is a nice 100% De Agave tequila as that is the only tequila people should be drinking. Maybe bring a nice bottle of blanco, some limes and serve chilled shots or drink it on the rocks with a squirt of lime.

I think Sol is way better than corona, but that is niether here nor there. I would recommend a beer called Tecate- its not bad and pretty cheap

My wife is Mexican and I've been to Mexico about ten times. There are a few good beers that I haven't seen in the states. I like Victoria and Indio is pretty good, Modello Negro is also good.
For a good Tequila go with Don Julio!

I ran by the local kroger and found a variety pack of some mexican beers. I'll go ahead and give them all a try tonight If worse comes to worse there is margarita bar set up. It all gets the job done.

I also agree with the negro modelo, especially if you like a darker beer, it's pretty decent. I also think Tecate's are alright, if not just a decent cheap beer to drink on cinco de mayo (instead of bud or something).

Negro Modelos are my favorite mex beer
Pacifico is a great 2nd choice
Tecate is another that is very good

Corona equal recycled Budwieser out of a donkey's.....

today marks the one year anniversery of the worst hangover of my life thus far, tonight I did it right and stayed away from the tequilla haha

i spent last night with fajitas and magarita's. the margarita's were great, but I the fajita's are exacting vengence this mourning.

I hear you one that one spilly, those hot wings from mister pizza burn on their way out.
I actually couldn't find any decent mex beer at my local super market so i said fuck 'em-i'm going dutch!
I then proceeded to drown myself in hienies for the night coupled with massive blunts
