Went and saw The Boss last night. Friend had an xtra tick.

He opened with a fitting tribute on the monitors for Danny Federici.

The whole show was killer, and I was pretty blown away for the first time seeing him.

The first time my dad saw the Boss was 12/8/80. He says it was like a three hour show and as he was driving home all the raido was playing was Beatle songs since Lennon was killed that night. It was also ten years to the day that I was born.

Well, my wife is a Springsteen fan. So, I've been to a number of concerts, including the one in Atlanta last week.

Like the Grateful Dead, Bruce has a fanatical following. Usually we end up sitting around people who have travelled a good ways to be there. He's clearly very talented and he has a tight band. But, for some reason, I just don't get it. Aside from a couple of songs, I really don't like his music. Just doesn't do much for me - which is why I'm here and not on a Springsteen webpage.

Big Springsteen fan! His shows are legendary and he is IMO, the best performer on the planet. Saw his '81 tour, and many thereafter. Saw him recently in Portland and it was great. He plays different shows every night, has the tightest band imaginable, plays for the whole audience and has written some great songs. Granted, I like the early stuff much better, but on this tour he's actually playing songs based on what people are holding up on signs! Gotta lowe it.

A reviewer in Portland said it well: "Ask almost anyone to name people in the E street band and they'll come up with a few. Ask anyone to do the same for another band (name a Heartbreaker?) and they can't do it. He gives much credit to his band"

There are dead similarities:
Rabid followers
Long legendary shows
Lots of bootlegs available
Ticketed folks willing to share at cost
All great musicians in the band

Plus the Big Man sitting in with the Dead....

I like alot of his earlier stuff too as well...and yes i concur with you amyjared....btw dont forget to look me up when in your here in NC....

the other night someone was holding up a sign that said "Sunny Day"....Bruce grabbed it played the song, signed the poster and gave it back...excellent shit man.

Yep.
Sometime in the mid to late 80s I think.

Growing up in NJ, I rejected the Boss on teenage principle. As I got older, I really love his stuff (mostly his older stuff). I've never seen him live, but I hope to rectify that problem soon.

That Seeger sessions disc was fantastic. I also just picked up a live 2 disc show of his from '75 (Bryn Mawr, PA). Awesome show.

I love me some Bruce now.

You must go see the Boss...you will not be disappointed.

I saw Clarence sit in the dead a few times in Oakland. He was ok, didn't add too much, nothing like when Branford would sit in, but I think the Dead always sounded better with a horn player. I always wanted more out of Clarence.

Also, one last thing about Bruce that I find amazing is that he has only ever put on ONE bad show...all the rest are incredible whether you see him at the Garden, or in podunktown usa, you'll get the same incredible energy! Oh, and Jackstraw, I have that show, too--a great one!
