I heard recently that PRS no longer makes Lefty's. If you want a custom now it costs like $6000-$8000.
Oh well!! It seems like it gets tougher and tougher finding quality lefty guitars. The local shops around Albany only carry the obligatory Strat and Les Paul( Epiphone mostly) models for a lefty.Any other lefty's run into this.

No big loss, amigo. PRS guitars are overrated.

However, my sympathies for your poor selection in general.

Carvin has no up charge for a lefty. Same as right. That is what first attracted me to them. I am not a lefty but my best friend is. I never thought it was fair. So I liked Carvins policy. It is a San Diego company. I got a DC127 with alot of extras, it is a nice electric. Here is their website

I used to play my friends stuff upside down while at his house just for fun. hehe

When I was in Salt Lake City, I went to a music store and asked the guy if he had any left handed banjos. He said he had one - and it had never been used. A couple of minutes later he comes out of his cellar with a 20 year old banjo. He said he's been waiting that long for a left handed banjo player to pick it up. I thought it was destiny, told him I was at least left handed, and took it home.

I really don't consider this a real option unless one finds the exact right guitar.

My local luthier was swapping out a nut and bridge on a PRS that appeared brand new.....

A lefty purchased a righty PRS. Billy, my luthier, swapped the nut, the bridge to lefty. I ran into the guy the other night and asked about the guitar. He loved it.

It looked really strange. But..... He loved it.

Like I said, I would assume it would have to be the exact right guitar... I wouldn't do it myself....

There seems to be a widespread misconception about Hendrix playing a righty setup but he obvs did not. I also remember a guy in Carbondale, IL band called Triple Dose who played scorching blues-rock stuff. In a way, it's easy to see how they all learned it that way: they began learning on borrowed instruments. Hanging out with their righty-playing friends or siblings or parents. Any of us lefties could have easily gone that way.

But at the same time it is WAY difficult to learn any standard types of chords with that backwards-oriented fingering. And all your downstrokes are now upstrokes, etc

Jimmy Haslip is a Bass player with the big strings on the bottom. I have only seen him once but he blew me away. It is a lefty but strung with the heavy strings on the bottom. Cjeck out this Utube of Jimmy, see the guitar about 35 seconds in to it, beautiful. But yeah how do you learn to do something like that?

I agree that PRS's are overrated. I just thought it was ridiculous to charge that much more for a lefty.

Just got a Carvin DC200, its funny you mentioned it already. Its a great guitar. About to give it the Garcia treatment.

thats how i laerned how to play actually! i couldn't afford my own guitar so picked up a friends and started f ing around and figured out the St Stephen intro. Since then i finally got a lefty (about 10 years later) so i have been relearning how to play

I feel your pain ... on the other hand, think of the thousands and thousands of dollars you haven't spent on a guitars are a result of our affliction.

Try Southpaw Guitars in Houston TX ... lefty dream come true, thousand's of 'em in one place. I got my lefty WY-1K there, and have my eye on a couple of Martins.

I play a custom left gibson 335. Its a 79. Ive had it since 83 or so.
I would love to collect guitars or just play others, but I really cant. I love my guitar, though. I dont know what I would do without it. Ive had it so long. It feels like a part of my body.
I can play a righty upside down only becuase its a right handed world, but I am not as good. It kinda limits me in that I dont feel comfortable sitting in or borrowing a guitar.
Hey I remember your lefty tiger, Playindead. I saw you after Phil in NYC last year. You guys were great.
I have been hankering for another lefty. I actually want to get a righty strat to use as a frankenstein guitar. But I also want to have a luthier make one to my specifications.
