I need some help. I'm curious to what other tunes you guys like to play other than Dead, Garcia or Dylan. Basically looking for some ideas. My band wants to start mixing in some other tunes

A favorite in my house is No Rain by Blind Melon. Beatles also goes well with Dead stuff, we muck around a little with Yesterday as well.

21st Century Fox - Doors
The Seeker - Who
Pretty much Classic rock.
But why would you want to play non- Dead stuff ?

I have not played in a band for YEARS but I do sit around and jam with friends at my place in the "Man-den". One of the cats I play with was never a dead head so he does not have the tunes "Burned" to memory like a lot of us. He is however into the Little Feat. Not ever listening to much Little Feat, I was able to throw the "Jam" improv on top of the Little Feat tunes....
A short list (From Memory) of what we have kicked around:
Willin'
Apolitical Blues
Sailin' Shoes
Tripe Face Boogie
There is plenty of room in these tunes to take them just about anywhere.

We have also re-arranged some tunes and made them our own:
La Grange (We killed the distorted guitar part left the temp rather slow and turned it in to a "Old" sounding blues tune, it works and when non-playing friends are over to listen and hang out, they don't recognize it until someone starts the "haw, haw, haw..)

I've read your posts before and you seem to have a broad range, try re arrangements of old "boring" bar tunes...
let me know if you need the "Sailin' Shoes" tunes, I can burn and email / snail mail to you.

JJ Cale is a great launching pad...

IMO, if you are gonna do "non-Dead" you have to:
1 - do it to beat the jukebox
2 - do it for the large crowds
3 - do it for the money
4 - play the cornball songs the masses wanna hear

If all those things aren't lined up, it ain't worth it to me.

Always get a great response with some reggae, just make sure you do it right. Playing reggae well is not as simple as one would think.
