What's a googlebot?

A googlebot is a tool that google uses to search your site for new content. it goes all over the place reading the pages looking for changes. This is good, except if it hits a page that has a bad query on it - then it becomes a problem.
I've rearranged the site to move the slower queries off an often used page, like the frontpage of the site. I've also told google to stay away from the pages that have queries that take a long time to run.
I am attempting to do whatever I can to stay with the current provider, as long as it is not too drastic (like removing search). Most importantly, I just want it to respond quickly always.
I've been wondering what else to put on the main page, so if you have an idea, I am open to it.
