Well, to get it going, my fav is from the Creamery Benefit, 8-27-72, the guy doing the announcements cracks me up throughout the whole show, from the on going saga of getting water to the people, to getting $27 bail for a rainbow farmer , classic stuff, and a great show to boot!!

Great show plagued with tech probs.My tape has a ton announcements.
Rasta guy intros the Dead who then start tuning up.Funny.
Another Rasta guy asked some some chick named Jill to meet her friends at the nearest cocanut tree.
Phil says "Were gonna fix it!" during tech probs.

Bob with the "That wasnt a coffin - it was a banana crate."
Also I got a Greek show with a Harley being gunned during Drums.Pretty cool - you can hear the roadies talking.
Bob is the master of the funny announcements.

"Beyond the pale"! :)

I can't remember what show it was. A '68/'69 I think. Jerry does some stage banter (Jerry's banter was always better than Bobby's). Something like,

"Things are really weird up here. If you'd ever like to spend an idle half hour sometime, you should come up here. <garble> Really, really weird. Beyond the pale."

From Festival Express, when they're on the train, Bobby and someone are arguing about the kids/cops/free festival/etc. Jerry pops his head in, "Must we put up with yellow journalism!". That cracks me up.

5-2-70 is another good Jerry banter. "Stuff it man"

this will always be most memorable to me. Before the Stagger Lee there is the whole "Don't Hang off the Balcony" rap with Bob, Jerry and Phil.
Then:
Bob: I say Phil, my dog has no nose
Phil: No nose, how does he smell?
Bob: Bloomin' awful.

That MC would be Ken Babbs, the Intrepid Traveler. He was Kesey best friend and sort of "co-commander" for loss of a better term, and a lot of the A-Test stream-of-consciousness MC'ing is actually Ken B. His two sons are the little blonde toddlers on the cover of the Woodstock live album. He sat in with my band on trombone when we opened the 4th Decadenal Field Trip in 2002!

RFK '90..."Come on Bobby!"...then the trippy "take a step back" before they launched into "Box of Rain". That was an insane show to experience.

The "Beyond the Pale" line is off of the "So Many Roads" box set, disc 1 or disc 2.

One of my favorite stage banters came from Weir at a summer Roosevelt Stadium Concert, 1974. Pouring Rain.

Weir is at the microphone telling the audience that you can't play electrical instruments in the rain. If you'd like to come up here and try it...

At which point some drunk from the audience tries to climb up on stage but never gets very far because the bouncers throw him back.

That was a weird show because it never took place. The rain prevailed, really hard rain, major lightning strikes.

All of the roads out of the area were flooded. Took me hours to get home hitchhiking. Got home around midnight.

there is one show where Bobby says "I just want to tell you the rumors of me leaving the band . . . it a god damn fucking lie, then Jerry says Yeah the rest of us are quitting"

I was at a show at Cal-Expo...6/10/90 and there were rumors goin' around that Phil was leaving the band after the upcoming Oregon shows...
Crowd-"We want Phil,We want Phil."
Phil-"there's been rumors goin around that I'm leaving the band after the oregon shows...It's a buncha bullshit,man!
Perfect timing,Jerry quipped "the rest of us are leaving."...krzykat...this might be the show you were referring to...unless it happened with Bobby as well.

The "Beyond the pale" thing was from Fillmore East '69.
