I just watched the Last Waltz again and am constantly amazed at how great the Band where and how under-rated. First off, I think the Last Waltz is the best concert film I've seen. It's just amazing and I would have loved to have been at that show! And the songs are so incredible from a guitarist standpoint, things like The Weight, Stagefright, Life is a Carnival are amazing examples of how to craft a song. And, of course, the lyrics are top notch. I saw them open for the boys once or twice, and several solo shows of some of them, but I am just in awe. Anyone else?

I agree man. When i listen to their songs, i put aside the music and listen to the lyrics. I am amazed at how people write music like that. Someday i hope to be a good writer like that.

The film is so stellar and a whole "experience" that I have it in my player on shuffle, so if your at my house chances are your watching the last waltz.

the band is great, i wouldn't call the underrated though, not by any means. i gotta friend who was at the watkin's glen show and said the band were without a doubt the highlight of the experience

i hope so. the dead played terrible that day. never heard jerry botch a china>rider so bad. the sound quality probably doesn't help my opinion of this show either.

get levon helms new album dirt farmer, especially if you're into americana roots style music. so glad he got his voice back. also for an awesome cover of the weight search youtube.com for old crow medicine show and gillian welch-the weight. absolutely beautiful stuff.

Watch Clapton's Guitar strap during his first (I think solo), it comes off the button and Roertson steps up while Clapton puts it back on. Then, when Clapton gets his turn again, watch the FUck out, the best Clapton I've ever heard right there....

The Band freakin' rock, one of my all-time favorites bands after the dead. And I agree, its all about their songs, its like true craftsmanship, so unique, and deep, and fun, and just amazing. Nothing like them. A band to be truly appreciated, which I'd agree, they don't get enough of.

The Band is frikkin amazing and the Last Waltz is definitely one of the best DVDs out there. As for Clapton I dont like him at all lol. But what about Van the Man? That Caravan rocked. Noticed toward the end he starts gettin the dry heaves? Hahah too funny. Too bad they didnt have King Harvest on that show or Loving you is sweeter than ever. Danko has such a great voice.

I'm not a Clapton fan so much either, that is why I enjoy that bit of the show so much.

In my opinion the best thing about Clapton is how much George Harrison loved him...

i got this vinyl of a bob dylan and the band live show or maybe its compiled from a tour i dont remember but its sooo good

I really like on the first two studio records how the vocals switch off lines in each of the verses on some of the songs. It is just seamless. A completely different take from the CSN style harmony singing. Also I would recommend Rock of Ages, the Bands first live album. In some ways the playing was better than at the last waltz. It even has Dylan on it.

Gotta agree with Rock of Ages, but Dylan is not on it Chief, perhaps you're thinking of the Basement Tapes?
Danko was the man. A much lambasted Band album, Moondog Matinee, which is all covers; has a totally heartfelt version of 'A Change is Gonna Come' sung by Rick. Dylan's set with the Band on the 'Last Waltz' is stellar. Check out Forever Young and Robertson's Solos! Love the Band!
